Freud and the slips

Although the phenomenon of slips has always been known, Freud was the first to have integrated it into a theory in Psychopathology of everyday life. According to him, the slip reveals one “Source external to the discourse”.

The slip would therefore be a manifestation of the unconscious, which is usually controlled by the Superego and from the rules of good manners and that comes to light only through a long work of psychoanalysis.

How to react?

You absolutely wanted to avoid a sensitive subject, but you couldn't do it; making a turn of words, you used the very expression you should have avoided and you hurt your interlocutor. Maybe you couldn't handle the tension, you failed to respect the boundaries you set yourself, and you gave in by revealing an unresolved conflict with this person.
Apparently, we get a slip for every 600-900 words, and more than 70% of these episodes are corrected as soon as the person realizes the slip, to avoid worsening the situation.
