Depilatory cream: how to use it for safe hair removal?

Contrary to waxing, both cold and hot, the depilatory cream does not tear the hair at the root, but dissolves them in a few minutes thanks to salts derived from sulfur (the salts of thioglycolic acid) that attack the keratin, the substance that surrounds the hair.

How to use it

Apply the cream on dry skin, in the area to be depilated, and wait a few minutes, as indicated on the instructions, for the cream to work. After application, rinse thoroughly.
Warning: if the duration of the application according to the part of the body is not respected, the skin can "" burn ".
After hair removal, don't forget to moisturize your skin and repair it with a good cream. Do not use aggressive products or products containing alcohol.

Depilatory cream: pros and cons

The advantages of depilatory cream, compared to other DIY hair removal methods:

  • This method is totally painless
  • It is a quick, simple and inexpensive technique

The disadvantages of the depilatory cream:

  • The depilatory effect is about 10 days, therefore longer than that of the razor. But hair regrowth is much faster than with waxing or electric hair removal.
  • The depilatory cream can be quite aggressive for the skin, which is why it is not a method suitable for the most sensitive parts, including the groin and armpits.

Depilation of the private parts: the depilatory cream and the alternatives

As we said previously, depilatory creams are quite aggressive, as they have a high PH that could create problems and irritation to the skin, especially in the most sensitive parts. It is for this reason that, for example, in an area such as the groin, other types of hair removal are recommended, including depilatory strips, Arab waxing or pulsed light hair removal or the definitive laser. The type of choice will obviously depend on personal tastes, needs and considerations.
