When fashion was beautiful. An exhibition on Italian high fashion at the Maxxi in Rome
The Maxxi Museum in Rome will host for the first time ever an exhibition dedicated to fashion, Gorgeous. The Italy of high fashion 1945 - 1968, curated by Maria Luisa Frisa, Anna Mattirolo and Stefano Tonchi, open from December 2nd until May 3rd 2015.
The exhibition is an opportunity to make the history of Italian high fashion, from the post-war rubble to 1968, the year of great social upheavals and more. A path that will focus on the cities of Italian fashion, Rome above all, with world occasions such as the 1950 Jubilee and the 1960 Olympics, but also the Dolce Vita in via Veneto, the true engine of the dreamy imaginary of the time, between glamor and stardom. international.

It will be possible to see the sensational creations of great names in the high fashion of the time, such as the sisters Fontana, Schubert, Galitzine, Capucci, Gattinoni and Simonetta, up to Valentino, Fendi and Mila Schön: the first names of the nascent Made in Italy, which since then it would have become an aesthetic myth imitated and dreamed of everywhere, not just about clothes, but also about jewels and accessories, including those by Gucci, Roberta di Camerino and Ferragamo among others.
There will also be many images, including the photographs of excellent brands such as Ugo Mulas, which contributed to the construction of a dreamy imagination that still strikes today. Among the curiosities, the famous dress Pretino, created by the Fontana sisters in 1955 for Ava Gardner, then recovered by Federico Fellini to dress Anita Ekberg, the explosive actress of Sweet life. And then Sarli's creations for Mina, at the time of her conduct of the legendary television program Studio One, when high fashion came out of the ateliers and entered the homes of all Italians. And again divas, models, images of a world that may have disappeared, but which made Italy change, bringing it into modernity.
The main partner of the exhibition is Bulgari, and it does not seem a coincidence, given that for 130 years it has been synonymous with excellence and taste. Bulgari will also be present at the exhibition, with the iconic creations Snakes, of gold and diamonds or enamels, which recover the head of a snake in the closures or decorations (you can see a modern example here).
To underline the bond that fashion has with other elements of culture, such as photography or contemporary art, there will also be works by artists such as Lucio Fontana, Alberto Burri, Carla Accardi and many others on display, and to open in the evening of inauguration, there will be a live performance by Vanessa Beecroft, an "Italian artist who for years has been thinking about" the image of the female body, poised between fashion and contemporary art.
An exhibition not to be missed, also for the location that hosts it, the Maxxi which with its new structure enriched by Zaha Hadid is rightfully one of the most interesting museums of today.
