What does a hangover come from?
The list of unpleasant symptoms that can occur after a hangover is long. In addition to headaches, typical symptoms are stomach pain, nausea and vomiting.
Many people are also familiar with depression, the lack of concentration, anxiety and depressive moods as side effects of a hangover.
Most hangover symptoms are not caused by the alcohol itself, but by the toxins that are produced when alcohol breaks down in the body. In addition, alcohol increases urine excretion, and soon the whole body will be dehydrated. The body sends these symptoms as signals to show us that it has been under a lot of stress and is now "punishing" us for it. Fortunately, there are ways to limit the negative after-effects of too much alcohol, before and after drinking.
1 - eat enough before drinking
Foods particularly rich in fats and proteins remain in the stomach for a long time and delay the absorption of alcohol into the blood. The result: the blood alcohol level rises less. Fatty and salty snacks like peanuts, sticks of salt, potato chips or olives are suitable if you know you need to drink a lot.
2 - prefer salty foods
Sugars increase the harmful effects of alcohol. Better to snack on substantial but salty ones.
3 - choose the right alcohol
Not all spirits are created equal! Not all alcoholic beverages cause the same ills. Warning: the worst of all is the brandy They follow in descending order: red wine, rum, whiskey, white wine and gin.
There are also differences between beers: drinking wheat beer has worse side effects than pilsner's. Be careful with hot or sugary drinks such as mulled wine or punch. These increase the absorption of alcohol into the blood.
4 - do not mix different types of alcohol
Stick to one type of alcoholic beverage even when it comes to party drinking. If you start with wine, better continue with that. Since alcohol dehydrates the body, in addition to alcohol one should drink enough water or soft drinks to compensate. It is always best to drink a glass of alcohol and a glass of water.
5 - avoid smoking at the same time as drinking
If possible, refrain from smoking during the festivities. Smoking deprives the body of oxygen and vitamins, greatly increasing the effect of alcohol and the hangover the next day.
6 - no drinking games
Better to avoid games or competitions in which you win if you drink more: they are the worst that can happen especially for the hangover.

We have already said: to avoid a hangover the next morning, you should definitely drink at least half a liter of mineral water before going to bed.
Even better: dissolve an effervescent tablet of magnesium and calcium in water. This replenishes the supply of trace elements that alcohol has removed from the body.
8 - eat before bed
Don't just drink water before bed, eat a slice of dry bread or something similar. To be safe, you can also take a pain reliever as a precaution - but if possible, do not take anything that contains the active ingredient of acetaminophen.
9 - leave the window open at night
Before sinking into the duvet, be sure to open the window! Oxygen helps the body regenerate itself. The risk of waking up with a headache or nausea is much lower.
10 - use an extra pillow behind your head
If you've been drinking too much, you get the feeling that the room is all around. To stop this, just add a second or third pillow under the head, so that the upper body is higher. A little psychological trick that reduces dizziness: let one foot out of the sheets.
