How much would a mom earn if she were paid for everything she does?

Some think that housewives, not having to go to work, stay at home all day wasting time on television and gossip magazines: we know that there is nothing further from reality.
Taking care of home and family is a full-time job and requires commitment and energy.
Let's not talk about the working mothers who, as soon as they leave the office, find themselves again at work between stoves and floors to be cleaned!

But then, if being a mother is equivalent to a job, how much should a woman who juggles between stoves and diapers be paid? The National Bureau of Economic Research, along with some Texas economists, thought about it. Together, they calculated how much the salary of a mom (or dad) who is a full-time parent would be.

The total is around € 45,000 per year.

A stressful job

To reach this result, the scholars observed some German and Australian couples and measured their stress level before and after the arrival of the babies: it goes without saying that it increased considerably, especially in women.

Other studies, such as the one conducted by the American site Salary.com, have estimated that being housewives implies about 94 hours of work per week and that, consequently, mom and dad could claim a salary of € 83,000, about € 7,000 per month.
