Is the microwave bad? The false myths to dispel
Now a must in our kitchens, the microwave oven has speeded up the cooking process and, in these hectic times, is a real godsend! However, there are those who say that cooking with the microwave can hurt or that it is dangerous for our health. Let's remove all doubts about its use together!
First of all, however, let's find out how this appliance works: the microwave oven, to heat food, uses not a process of radiation or conduction, but rather the electromagnetic fields emitted in the microwave spectrum. The result is to heat the food much faster, although the heat is transmitted from the outermost to the innermost layers and not evenly.
There are those who say that the use of microwaves is harmful or that it can even cause tumors (and we know how important information is about cancer, as our video explains) ... let's find out together everything there is to be know and dispel any perplexity.
Is the microwave bad or can it be dangerous?
Can the microwave really be dangerous? If you are worried that the microwaves could escape from the appliance, rest assured: the oven always has a protective casing and a metal mesh that almost completely limits a possible leakage. You should only start to worry if the oven door is badly dented, only then (or in case of tampering) there could be leaks.
Microwaves don't interfere with wireless network signals, pacemakers or other electronic devices, so you don't even have to worry about that.
The only cause for concern could be the danger of burns: always be careful when removing food from the oven, especially if heated inside containers that could reach very high temperatures compared to the food itself.
Can cooking with the microwave alter food?
Another frequent concern is this: that cooking with microwaves can lead to an "alteration of the nutrients contained in the food that is being heated."
According to studies, not only is this concern unfounded, but actually - indeed - it seems that the microwave damages the stability of vitamins C and B less and that it produces less hydrocarbons and heterocyclic amines than other cooking, such as the grill. So you can be on the safe side!
Can using the microwave promote the onset of tumors?
Nothing more false. Scientific studies have ascertained, as reported by the "AIRC (Italian Association for Cancer Research), that there is no relationship between the microwave and" radiofrequency like radios and they are shielded: "only very old devices", we read, "deteriorated or with the door that does not close properly they could be potentially dangerous (because they heat the fabrics), but only if you stay close to them for a long time while they are in operation ". So you can sleep peacefully and continue to use your microwave in complete safety! Maybe to reheat some of these foods useful to prevent cancer ...
