Mothers on motorcycles: rules for transporting children on 2 wheels
In Italy, the legislation governing the possibility for an adult, and therefore also for us mothers, to bring a child on a two-wheeled motor vehicle only establishes the obligation to make him wear an approved helmet, in this case for children, and the ban on transporting children under the age of 5. For those who violate this prohibition, the penalty ranges from 161 to 646 euros, therefore, let's listen to the voice of conscience and also that of the wallet!
All the rest is entrusted by the legislator to common sense, and in any case - we would like to say it - we are talking about a matter that is anything but peaceful, given that other European countries, such as Austria and Spain, are decidedly more restrictive on the subject.
The preferred position appears to be the one behind the driver: the legislation establishes that the passenger is seated in a stable and balanced way. It is important not to carry children in front of you, between the handlebars and your body, and even less standing on the scooter platform, they run very serious risks in the event of an accident!
Child seat yes or no? In Italy the use is discretionary and not mandatory. In any case, it must be an approved device. As well as not mandatory but strongly recommended are protections, and therefore full back protector, jacket, gloves, trousers and suitable footwear, as for adults.
And finally, if avoiding exposing our little ones to high motorway speeds appears to be a measure of wisdom, let us not underestimate the short routes, those that, due to traffic, are damaged by the greatest probability of an accident.
