Women in communication: interview with Luisa Magliola from Ciaodino
Coming of age is certainly an important milestone, both for a person and for a brand and, in this very particular case, for ours.
As the female turns 18, we have decided to start a Women Empowerment project that focuses on women who work in the field of communication.
Luisa Magliola, Client Director & Co-Founder of Ciaodino, answered 5 significant questions for us, telling us how important it is to maintain one's identity also in the workplace.
1. What is "being a woman" like in the world of work?
Is critical. Net of the judgments of merit (difficult, demanding, stressful ...), I believe that being a woman in the world of work is our specific duty, to which we must always pay attention. Let me explain: very often we are forced to compromise to sacrifice our being a woman in the workplace, from the clothing we are expected to lead, to the kind of life we have to maintain. From my point of view, and it is also what I have always tried to do during my career, it is important to remain yourself, even if this involves a clash with the expectations that others have towards us. I have seen many women try to adapt their behavior to that of men (work rhythms, priorities, competition), when instead it is exactly our being different that is the key to the success of the team or company in which we work or where we are. responsible.

I remember that at the time I was still very unripe and very "trivial" questions arose, which I would only be able to answer years later: why is the pilot always a man when I take a plane? How come I can only talk about football with my male friends? At the age of 19, with the beginning of my university career, I acquired greater awareness, thanks also to what I consider my mentor, Paola Pallavicini, at the time professor of History of Media at the University of Turin, who counted among the his courses modules such as "Media, gender and citizenship: the sexuation of the public between market and politics".
3. Three words you associate today with "women empowerment"
Courage, uniqueness, political conscience.
4. What would you recommend to the 18-year-old you?
To read much more about the feminist movements of the past, from which in my opinion there is still a lot to learn to improve our future. In fact, we often forget that some of the privileges and rights we have today have been obtained through protest, struggle and making one's voice heard. Exactly what we still need today.
5. How much need is there to talk about it today (about women empowerment) and what should be done?
In a society where everything and the opposite of everything is affirmed every day, it is essential to identify some charismatic figures who, through media exposure or political power, can stand as standard-bearers of the movement, so as to encourage that part of society most reactive to change. take part in the phenomenon. The starting point for discussion and dissemination must be schools, where the awareness of future women and future men begins to form, but it is also necessary to intercept the moments and means most suited to today's generations, such as social media.
