ICT needs women!
A study by the European Commission reveals that if there were more women employed in the ICT sector, the EU GDP would increase by 9 billion, a figure that is certainly not negligible. Unfortunately, however, the female shares in this sector are still low: out of a thousand women graduates, only 29 have qualifications relating to ICT - the average of men is 95 out of a thousand - and only four are then employed in 'Information & Communication Technologies.
Two other elements highlighted by the study, and which penalize women are: the abandonment of work and the lower presence in managerial and decision-making roles, only 19.2% of workers in the sector have female bosses compared to 45.2 % of non-ICT workers.

What would happen if this trend were reversed? That the European GDP would benefit for about 9 billion, that the ICT sector would achieve a 35% higher return on capital thanks to female employment, that women employed in this market would run less risk of layoffs and would earn 9%.
Does that tickle you? Know that by 2015 there will be around 900,000 job vacancies in the sector!
