Autumn colors: how they affect our psyche
For many, autumn is synonymous with sadness and melancholy, caused by the rainy climate and nostalgia for holidays. At each change of season, neurons and hormones react in a certain way that affects our body and our mood. But autumn, particularly in September, it is also the time to be reborn, to impose choices and to set new goals. A bit like spring, in which the autumn foliage is transformed into an expanse of colored flowers. It is no coincidence that autumn is a season loved by poets, including Walt Whitman and John Keats who call it "the" intimate friend of the sun at its peak ".
Many have described it as a passage which, contrary to the image of decay that is often associated with it, prepares nature for a new birth. This is what gives autumn an almost magical aura.
Autumn therefore symbolizes everything that must fall within us, dissolve and be reborn in something else: a new awareness, a new hope, a new challenge.
So are you ready to grab new opportunities? I recommend, do it with perfect nails and perfectly in tune with the season!
A new beginning with autumn and its colors
Red, yellow and orange: these are the warm colors, including shades and intermediate tones, peculiar to autumn. They are the same used by chromotherapy, a branch of alternative medicine that uses colors to manage psycho-physical difficulties, for the their energizing effect.
They are the colors of autumn landscapes and seasonal food, such as pumpkin, chestnuts, truffles and mushrooms.
The main physical reactions that this range of colors arouses in the viewer are the acceleration of the breath and the stimulation of muscular activity, which lead our body to feel more active and vital.
But let's discover together, color by color, what are the consequences of autumn on our mind.
Autumn is not a season, but a state of mind. Friedrich Nietzsche
Red: how red affects the psyche
As we know, red is the color that symbolizes passion, love and life, but also danger and violence. The effects it can have are therefore of various kinds. On the one hand, the vision of red, especially in those who suffer from low blood pressure, accelerating blood pressure, can have benefits on circulation and motivate action. On the other hand, if the person in eye contact with red has a more lively disposition, the risk is that it stimulates hyperactivity, which can lead to aggressive attitudes.
Returning for a moment to the original meaning of red: love ... what love do we want in autumn? Obviously the real one, with which to share the blanket in front of our favorite movie.
Yellow: How yellow affects mood
Yellow, the color that (more than white) we associate with light, should instead be used in the right measure. Why? Because an "excessive exposure to yellow like" excessive exposure to the sun, the primary source of energy, can transmit too many stimuli which, instead of turning into positive energy and desire to do, risk turning into nervousness and anxiety.
Yellow is definitely a color to have at the table, because it increases appetite and helps digestion, even better if accompanied by an herbal tea of the same color: gentian, saffron, ginger and lemon or Bach flowers.
Brown: the fall color to stay away from
Brown-beige tints, popular this season, can have strange effects. The more "negative" ones would in fact draw further discouragement and instability from the prolonged vision of these shades, which interfere with the psychological tension and therefore with the will to make new projects. Those who are prone to seeing everything black suffer more than others from the return to routine and closed spaces and can also suffer physically, with fatigue, decreased desire, irritability, nervous hunger. We therefore invite you not to give in to brown and what is called SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder), or seasonal depression, and to go out in search of some orange!
Orange: the right compromise that is good for the mind
What position does orange occupy in the chromatic spectrum? Exactly that between red and yellow, that is the healthy middle ground between these two colors that we have said to have more or less positive aspects. Orange retains only the good of the colors it has beside and of which it represents the perfect synthesis; for this reason it is able to spread energy and serenity at the same time.
If you intend to react to the stress of returning from holidays and to face the new season in the best way, then we recommend that you surround yourself with this color. Look for it also among the trendiest items of autumn!
