The perfumes that have made history

Let's try to clarify these mythical and luxurious fragrances even if, as Patrick Süskind says in his famous book, The scent, language is not always able to describe the world of smells ...

The mysteries of perfume

We are all linked to one or more smells, important because they are part of our intimacy, linked to the memory of a special person, or of an unforgettable moment. The smell is closely linked to the memories and sentimental experiences of our life. Just think of the famous experience Madeleine by Proust.
We all retain the memory of smells that belong to our childhood, insistent, maternal, to which are added the smells linked to the strong emotions we experienced later.

Creating a perfume

In the process of creating a perfume, the perfumer, or "nose", tries to recreate an "emotion, a specific sensation, or a place. To do this, he uses a range of smells that he has learned to recognize in the course of his studies. , trying to recreate an environment (a lavender field where cicadas sing ... for example) or a sensation, such as sensuality enclosed in the magic of an encounter ...

The timeless

It was AImé Guerlain, son of the Parisian perfumer, who created the first perfume made with synthetic elements in 1889. This date marks the birth of modern perfumery as we conceive it today. We talk about luxury perfumes when it comes to eau de parfum or perfume extracts.

In fact, prices vary both on the basis of the reputation of the perfume and on the percentage of concentration of the actual perfume in the excipient. In eau de parfum its concentration rate is between 12 and 15%, while in perfume extracts it exceeds 20%.

The smell of the myth

Shalimar, by Guerlain: It was one of the first oriental perfumes to exist. Created in 1925 by Guerlain, it is a luxurious and timeless perfume. The story of the creation of this perfume is a lot of fun. In 1889, Aimé Guerlain created Jicky, the first perfume made from synthetic elements. Later, a member of the Guerlain family would accidentally drop a few drops of vanilla into Jicky's bottle… And Shalimar it was! The composition of this great perfume, which mixes bergamot, rose, jasmine, vanilla and tonka bean is, at the same time, fresh and seductive: capable of evoking a romantic and sensual aura, enclosed in the splendid bottle signed by Baccarat. Even today, almost a million bottles of this perfume are sold every year!

Chanel N ° 5: It is the best-selling perfume in the world since its creation date, 1921! At the time, Gabrielle Chanel asked a famous "nose", Ernest Beaux, to create for her a fragrance that could embody eternal elegance. Said, done! An anecdote? Beaux submitted a dozen samples to her and she chose the n ° 5: hence the name of the perfume, which would then be launched on the fifth day of the fifth month of the year! Bottle with a minimalist line, symbol of the rigor of Chanel style, a timeless smell ... this is how the legendary perfume, the one loved by the stars, was born ... just think of Marylin Monroe, who claimed to go to sleep with "only two drops of Chanel N ° on 5 "...

Angel, by Thierry Mugler: This perfume marked an era and continues to be successful for the originality of its fragrance and bottle. Its creator likes to remember that, with this fragrance, he wanted to make a perfume that could be perceived by everyone in the same way, causing a feeling close to love, so sensual that it makes the wearer want to 'eat'. Angel makes you travel to the heart of the fairs, in the smell of candies, caramel, honey, chocolate mixed with patchouli… It was a revolution in an era in which the perfumery universe had not yet exploited this type of perfume!

Miss Dior, by Dior: This extremely feminine perfume was born in 1948, in homage to Catherine, sister of Christian Dior. Created to celebrate the Liberation, it expresses the desire to regain possession of the pleasures, enclosing desire and absolute femininity! Miss Dior is inspired by the fragrances of rose and jasmine. In April 2005, the legendary perfume was revisited thanks to the launch of Miss Dior Chérie. John Galliano wanted to make him younger without altering his nature: here is a new success, a tribute to the creation of Christian Dior.
