Face taping: the new frontier of anti-wrinkle treatments
The face taping technique was invented in Russia and spread first in South Korea and then also in Italy, where it has become the new favorite anti-aging facial gymnastics for women. It is based on the application of tapes, or rather brightly colored elastic patches which, with their tightening effect, help to improve the blood circulation of the face and, consequently, also its appearance. What is face taping
Face taping is a non-invasive aesthetic treatment that involves the application of tape, a colored cotton tape with an adhesive side, on the face and neck; derived from the more famous Kinesio Taping, this technique promises to improve the general appearance of the face. going to tone and drain the muscle tissues. Although it can also be done at home alone, it is best to rely on a professional at least for the first session. Taping is particularly suitable for those with dull skin, marked by small wrinkles or mature, because it acts mechanically on the skin tissues, stimulating the lymphatic system.
The elastic tape, called tape, is made up of many small waves that, placed on the face, are able to slightly lift the skin and reactivate the muscles which, due to postural errors or stress, contract creating small wrinkles. The patches, therefore, perform a kind of natural micro massage that is a real cure-all for relaxing the tissues and counteracting the first signs of aging.
It is a treatment born in Russia from the studies of Svetlana Kokorina, but which then spread to the very attentive South Korea, where girls love to flaunt their colored tape on their face.
Face taping, although it may seem a fanciful and bizarre technique, actually has a solid scientific basis because it derives from the much more famous Kinesio taping.

The colored kinesiology tape is commonly used in sports medicine to treat trauma, contractures and lymphatic blockages. Kinesio taping is also used by applying pieces of tape on problem areas: these, exerting a sort of traction, reduce the physiological load on the areas of the body that cause pain.
The benefits of face taping
- The application of the tape stimulates the skin and helps drain the tissues of the face, reducing bags and dark circles. It also reduces swelling.
- It relaxes tense muscles and, therefore, helps to combat wrinkles and prevent expression lines. It is a real non-invasive anti-aging treatment suitable for all skin types, especially mature ones.
- Over time, the body produces less and less collagen and the skin on the face stretches and dries out more. This causes fine lines to form, particularly around the mouth and eyes. The anti wrinkle creams help nourish the epidermis, however they cannot do much against real wrinkles: the tape, on the other hand, has a much more intense mechanical action which strengthens the revitalization of the cells.
- The tape stimulates the muscles, keeping them in training and helping them to become more toned. It reactivates the blood and lymphatic circulation of the face.
Face taping in a beauty center
If you are not very familiar with aestethic face taping, it is preferable to contact a professional at the beauty centers that offer this kind of treatment. Generally, three types of protocol are suggested:
- Lymphatic Taping, which acts as a real lymphatic drainage massage on the face, reducing the swellings that mainly affect the eye contour area.
- the Facial Muscle Stretch Technique, which helps to relax the areas of the face where more tension builds up, such as the forehead. In this case the patches are kept for almost 8-10 hours, so many go to sleep directly with the tape.
- finally, the Tissue Lifting Technique, a protocol that has a lifting effect on the tissues, giving turgor and muscle tone to the face; this is the longest and most powerful treatment, which gives a real boost to the muscle fibers.
How to apply face taping alone
If this is the first time you apply face taping, it is always preferable to have at least one session with a professional who will explain the various areas of the face where the tape can act. On the net and on social media, then, there are many videos that explain how to put the taping, such as those of the osteopath Marialuisa Morelli. This can be bought at the pharmacy and costs around 10-15 euros for a 5 meter roll. The color is indifferent and does not affect the result, however it is always better to choose an excellent quality taping tested for sensitive skin.
It is applied after carefully cleansing the face and can be held up to 8-10 hours without detaching it, however the duration is very personal. The tape can be used to treat the sternocleidomastoid muscle with the aim of making the neck muscles more toned and preventing headaches and jaw tension. Or it can be applied to the eyebrows or the nasolabial area.
Everyone can benefit from this treatment, however mature and dull skin is the one for which it is best suited. Generally, a first "shock phase" is planned with two weekly applications for a month, and then moves on to the "maintenance phase" with one session every two weeks.
