Bone fragility? Here are some rules to avoid fractures!
A fall can cause a fracture, but it is not the fall itself that is the origin. In fact, in a person with osteoporosis, some fractures (for example the vertebral ones) can be the result of a simple sneeze, a sudden movement or even just apparently trivial gestures such as tying your shoes. The cause, therefore, is to be found in the fragility of bones as a result of osteoporosis, a disease that increases with age and which mainly affects women, making the skeleton vulnerable to the most banal daily activities.
For all people with osteoporosis it is therefore good to pay close attention to movements, especially avoiding falls, but also to prevent fractures by following correctly and regularly the pharmacological treatment prescribed by the doctor.

Few rules for preventing fractures
High-risk people, including those who have already suffered a fragility fracture, must apply a few simple 3-point rules:
- Lifestyle: follow a diet rich in foods useful to ensure an adequate supply of vitamins and minerals necessary to keep muscles and bones healthy. Pay attention to the weight. Doing regular physical activity, possibly outdoors, tailored to individual health conditions. Avoid smoking, consume coffee but in moderation and do not consume alcohol
- Fall prevention: wear comfortable clothing and shoes that are well-fitting to the feet, comfortable and resistant. Avoid bumpy paths in and out of the home, such as carpets, stairs, TV wires
- Follow the therapy: calcium and vitamin D supplementation is essential where diet and sun exposure are inadequate; however, in the case of osteoporosis, it is also important to follow a specific pharmacological treatment to prevent fractures and it is therefore important to correctly follow the directions given by the doctor. Ask your doctor for solutions that facilitate times and methods of use.
