The scientist Isaac Newton had defined indigo as the sixth color of the rainbow and in fact this shade, halfway between blue-blue and violet, is a color that is not easy to describe but which is very reminiscent of the suggestive arches in sky. It is a very ancient color, known and used by man to dye clothes, however it is also a very popular color in the field of home furnishings because it manages to communicate a feeling of peace and relaxation.
It is obtained by mixing magenta with cyan in equal parts; in the RGB chromatic scale it is identified with 75; 0; 130, in fact, is made up of 29.41% red, 50.98% blue but zero green.

History and meaning of the indigo color
Indigo has been used in Asia since 4000 years ago, when the populations of India noticed that from the indigofera tinctoria plant it was possible to obtain a pigment of natural origin that was able to dye fabrics. The process from which indigo is obtained consists in macerating the leaves of the indigofera and making them ferment in contact with a base (such as soda, for example) and oxygen; the substance obtained assumes the indigo color, in fact it is likely that this name derives from the growth area of this plant. The extract was also used by the Romans, Egyptians and Persians, who appreciated this color between blue and purple.
Indigo is a color also widely used in meditation practices, in fact it is associated with the sixth chakra. This color is characterized by its relaxing and calming properties, in fact it is able to give a strong sense of peace and spirituality. For this reason it is suitable for use in environments where harmony, relaxation and serenity are sought.
How to use indigo color to decorate your home
The indigo color, be it lighter tending to purple, or slightly darker, is a perfect shade to be used to decorate your home. Painting the walls of the living room or bedroom with this shade will give a relaxed and elegant atmosphere, while used as a touch here and there in the choice of furnishing accessories it turns out to be a sober and minimal choice.
The combinations suggested by the interior designers to use indigo even indoors are:
- with wood. Violet-blue blends perfectly with wood, especially the one that turns to a warm honey color. Painting the wall behind the headboard in this color, for example, is a great idea if you then choose other wooden elements.
- with green. The indigo-green combination is a winner, however you must like saturated colors.

- with pink, copper and gray. The metallic colors are very modern, while with the pink indigo gives its best in creating a relaxing and intimate atmosphere. Near an indigo wall, for example, you can approach it with a light source, such as a metal stem lamp that enhances its brightness.
- with white for the children's bedroom. Although indigo is a cold color, if it is combined with the white of the furniture (such as the cot, the changing table, ...) it is very chic and soothing at the same time. It can be used in the children's room but also in the living room or in kitchen.

Indigo is a perfect color for decorating the home environment because it is trendy but at the same time it is also a great classic. It is generally used to decorate the living room, bathroom and kitchen, however it is perfect in all spaces because it furnishes without being heavy. In addition, it is very easy to use because it combines with many other colors and shades such as white, wood, all earth tones (brown, ocher, yellow, ...), pastel colors (pink, lilac, ..) .), light green, metallic colors (gold, copper, ...). In short, the blue indigo, this is its technical name, goes well with practically everything!
