The Ethnic style. Here's how to create it
But what is meant by ethnic?
The ethnic style mixes furnishings and accessories from different non-European countries, from Morocco to India, also including some influences that come directly from the Far East.
Tribal, with geometric, zebra or animalier prints: the decor inspired by the atmospheres of distant countries can be very eccentric, but also chic and highly distinctive.
It is not a homogeneous and univocal style, on the contrary this trend lends itself to a wide range of interpretations and includes a set of influences inspired by worlds and cultures that are also very different from each other, and therefore rich in magnetic mystery. It is therefore ideal for those who love to travel, even if only with their imagination, for the more adventurous spirits and for those who willingly indulge in the charm of the exotic.

The birth of the ethnic style intended as a furniture trend dates back to the period in which the first travelers used to return home with some pieces of exotic furniture, as a reminder of the countries visited or discovered: it was therefore a fairly elitist phenomenon as, obviously, there weren't many who could afford long journeys around the world.
Today's situation is very different in which each of us can easily find ethnic style accessories and furnishings, original or simply inspired, with which to embellish and personalize your home.
Colors and materials
Let's start with the materials, naturally based and often left in raw form. First of all, wood is the most common and used raw material, in particular teak, a wood that can be found in different shades, from the mahogany color of Shaanxi to the light tones of Jumo, and particularly resistant and long-lasting.

In some cases they are used as a coating, in others as a material for the production of decorative objects and furnishings. Finally, terracotta and iron, especially patinated, are often found in objects of ethnic inspiration.
As for the colors, it must be said immediately that the ethnic style is not for you if you are a lover of soft colors or absolute white protagonist! Furnishing the house following the dictates of the ethnicity means surrounding yourself with multiple colors, above all accesses, warm, gaudy to recreate the sunny atmosphere of distant countries, their countless spices and pristine landscapes.
Green light therefore to reds, yellows, browns, blues and even greens, trying to avoid the metallic colors, which do not go well with this style.
The house in the ethnic style
Well, let's get to the practice. How to recreate everything said so far in your home? It will not be difficult, nor particularly expensive, given that by now ethnic accessories and furnishings are found everywhere, even in the markets around the house.
Depending on personal tastes, the ethnic furniture can involve all the rooms or even just a few rooms with an exotic touch here and there. You can perhaps start from the hall or an entrance and then, if you like, continue and add exotic touches in other rooms.

It is not essential to abound in quantities, you get equally suggestive effects with few details in the right place, even in a modern context.
Among the most typical and characteristic elements of ethnic craftsmanship, carpets (Persian, Tunisian, Egyptian), sculptures (the most common ones depict characters or animals with stylized lines), painted ceramic or wooden vases, decorated with tribal motifs or drawings. geometric shapes and the lamps, real queens of the environment.
The final touch? Incense, which must never be missing, to be burned in the form of classic sticks or granules. Its unmistakable fragrance will be the extra element capable of dragging you, at least with your mind, to distant countries full of unchanging charm.
