Clear egg: what it is and why it could happen
What is the light egg?
Pregnancy begins with the meeting of an egg and a sperm. The fertilized egg divides into two, four, eight, sixteen and then more cells, which will form the embryo and then the baby. In the case of the pale egg. this development stops and therefore the pregnancy stops.

The diagnosis of the pale egg is made during the ultrasound. From the beginning of pregnancy, ultrasound can detect the presence of the embryo in the egg, as well as the heart activity of the embryo which certifies its life. In the case of a clear egg, we will only see an empty egg, with nothing inside. The pregnancy has stopped, the embryo, still very small, has stopped developing. The expression "light egg" refers to the image we see in the ultrasound and is therefore that of an empty egg.

The main causes of the light egg
Although the causes of the pale egg are not fully known, the following genetic abnormalities are mentioned: The egg is malformed and cannot develop anymore, so it stops growing. Heavy metal poisoning, such as lead or cadmium, is also suspected. Heavy metals are said to be responsible for sperm malformation and eggs resulting from these atrophied sperm are not viable.
What to do after the discovery of the light egg
After discovering the pale egg, a second ultrasound check is normally performed. It is possible that the date of pregnancy is not correct and therefore the pregnancy is not sufficiently advanced to be able to detect the embryo. The second ultrasound will confirm or, conversely, invalidate the diagnosis of a clear egg.If the pregnancy has truly stopped, the clear egg expels itself, resulting in an early miscarriage. A follow-up ultrasound will confirm that the uterus is completely empty. Sometimes the egg is not completely expelled: this causes heavy bleeding. In this case, the evacuation will be drug-induced or aspiration-induced.

Possible complications of the pale egg
A clear egg does not cause infections. Menstruation returns a few weeks later and the risk of recurrence is practically nil. However, the shock of miscarriage, even early, should not be underestimated and psychological support may be needed.
