The truth about the signs of aging: not just wrinkles. There is also the loss of volume

If we think of the visible signs of skin aging, they immediately come to mind wrinkles, generally most visible in the outer corners of the eyes, on the forehead, between the eyebrows and between the nose and mouth.

But if we think about it carefully, we will realize that there is also another element that immediately brings to mind the passage of time on the skin: the loss of volume; the so-called sagging skin, caused, among others, by the decrease in Hyaluronic Acid present in the skin and amplified by external aggressions (exposure to the sun, wind, cold,) which affect the structure.

Aging leads to profound changes in the skin: the appearance of the face changes, loses its natural fullness, decreases elasticity and tone. Cheeks and cheekbones lose volume; the result? A sadder and more aged expression.

The causes of this process are attributable to several factors: including the decrease in the content in hyaluronic acid, a molecule responsible for the turgor of the skin as it can retain a large amount of water, up to 1000 times its own weight. Any variation concerning this molecule therefore leads to an alteration of the mechanical properties of the skin.

In addition to this role of hydration, its presence allows to maintain the volume and roundness of the skin and its decrease manifests itself in a face that appears less full, as if emptied.

What can we do to counteract the loss of tone and volume?

Since there are several factors that affect skin aging and loss of volume, there are also many strategies that we can implement to slow it down.

We can certainly start with a "varied and balanced diet, which always provides us with all the nutrients necessary for the well-being of our skin (especially vitamins and mineral salts).
We must never miss a good dose of physical activity, essential to eliminate toxins, and strictly avoid alcohol and smoking.

Let's not forget that it is also essential to protect the epidermis from external aggressions - including the sun - with specific creams and treatments and not to neglect the beauty routine, so that our skin is always in the best possible conditions to face the passage of time with energy.
