Chiacchiere: the typical Carnival dessert

In essence, these are sweet pastry sheets that are fried (or even baked in the oven, for a lighter version) and then sprinkled with powdered sugar.

Also appreciated abroad, and often known by different names (frappe, rags, lies, gloves ...) they are quite simple to make and can also be accompanied by chocolate or honey sauces for more delicious versions. the traditional recipe, to make for tea with friends or to take to a masquerade party.

Ingredients (for 6 people)
250 grams of flour
40 gr of butter
2 heaping tablespoons of sugar
2 eggs
1/2 orange juice (or 2 tablespoons of rum / witch)
1 grated lemon peel
1 pinch of salt
1 tablespoon of milk
a sprinkle of powdered sugar for garnish

Preparation
1- Put the flour in a circle or a fountain
2- Add the butter, sugar, eggs, 1/2 orange juice, lemon peel, 1 pinch of salt and milk.
3- Mix everything with your hands until the dough is uniform and not too hard.
4- Roll out the dough with a rolling pin (not too thin otherwise they will be too crunchy)
5- Cut into many rectangles of about 6cm in length, in the center of which make a cut of about 2 / 3cm.
6- Fry in abundant, boiling oil over low heat until golden brown.
7- Pass them on absorbent paper to remove excess oil and sprinkle with icing sugar.
