Eating pistachios could protect against diabetes
The research, promoted by American Pistachio Growers, the association representing pistachio growers in the United States of America, seems to show that the consumption of this fruit originating in the Middle East could improve insulin resistance, thereby protecting against diabetes. type 2.
“This research constitutes a further and useful indication of how pistachios can be inserted advantageously in the daily diet"- says Professor Giorgio Donegani, president of the Italian Foundation for Food Education -"Not only for the known antioxidant and protective effects against cardiovascular diseases, but also for the prevention of a worrying pathology such as diabetes, often associated with an unhealthy lifestyle, both in terms of nutrition and for what concerns low physical activity“.
The study was carried out on a sample of 54 people who for 4 months followed either a control diet or one rich in pistachios (57g per day). The glucose level was then detected and the researchers noted a noticeable decrease after the pistachio diet compared to the control diet.
