Light perm: how to use it for all hair types
The light perm does not directly involve the hair root, but focuses more on the lengths, which with a particular technique are waved, curled or ironed! In this way you avoid the exaggerated volume that was so sought after in the past, moreover the hair suffers less stress because you do not have to spend hours under the helmet in the heat. Before delving into the theme, find out in this video how to do wavy hair.
What is the light perm?
The light perm that we will talk about in this article, features soft waves and an innovative style, very far from the fluffy locks of the last decade.
But what is it specifically about? The perm is a chemical process that breaks down the natural structure of the hair so that you can recreate curls even on those with straight hair. This treatment allows you to have curly and fluffy hair for a long time, moreover, depending on the products used, the final effect can be a curly, wavy or soft perm.
The light perm is done in hairdressing salons where the hair is wrapped in a series of curlers, the thickness of which will determine the intensity of the curl, with the addition of chemicals to break the hair structure without being aggressive.
Today, most hair care products are formulated in such a way as not to make them dry, frizzy, brittle and damaged, on the contrary there are often agents capable of protecting the structure, such as silk proteins that make them more hydrated, vital and elastic.

The light perm is performed with a chemical treatment that has a lower impact on the hair than the traditional one because ammonia is not used, in this way the hair fiber is not stressed.
The effect of the treatment lasts about 3-5 months, but it all depends a lot on the type of hair. In order not to excessively stress your hair, it is advisable to allow 4 to 6 months to pass between the first and second perm.
If you have fine and thin hair, the light perm will be perfect as by playing with the different sizes of the curlers, you can get different styles of curls: from tight curls to beach waves.
If you already have wavy hair, the treatment will simply help you to make the fluffy effect more evident.
The light perm is ideal for a short cut or for those with long hair, in short, there are no limits.
Light curly perm
If you are a fan of curly hair and want to get rid of the smooth noodle, the light perm is for you. With this treatment you will have a perfect and lasting hairstyle!
In fact, the perm is so called because it allows straight hair to become permanently curly; for this reason it is important to know that to go back you will have to cut your hair.
To do a light perm, you need to go to a hairdresser. Once wet, the hair is wrapped around curlers and then a waving lotion is applied which, penetrating inside the hair, modifies its natural shape.
After the lotion has acted, the hair is rinsed and the subsequent application of another "neutralizing" substance that reconstitutes the previously broken chemical bonds, giving life to the new shape of the hair, thus making it "permanent". This phase is the most important of the curly perm as, if this step is not done correctly, the hair could be damaged. Finally, he proceeds to styling.
A couple of hours are required to perform the perm and then you will need to provide for a touch-up for natural hair regrowth.

Smooth light perm
Let's face it, few are satisfied with the hair donated by mother nature, and we are often constantly looking for something new and change. For example, those with straight hair find themselves facing the nightmare of frizz, which is very difficult to tame and eliminate.
There are some straightening treatments to get rid of frizz, but they take a long time to do. On the other hand, they have the plus of making you forget the griddle for a long time. Even in the case of a light perm, the structure of the hair is totally and radically changed. The final effect will be “spaghetti”: without having to straighten them, the hair will be soft, smooth and disciplined for at least 3 months.
Important to know: the smooth light perm cannot be done on hair that has already been treated, dyed, with streaks or on those already smoothed with creams or other products.
Light perm on long hair
The light perm is also suitable for those with long hair, in this case the main objective will be to give thickness and volume.
It is important to take into account the initial length of the hair, because if it exceeds 30 cm the result may not be guaranteed due to the weight of the hair which would therefore loosen the curl.
Depending on the size of the curlers and the technique used for perming long hair, a greater volume can be obtained at the roots or a wavy movement can be created over the entire length. As a general rule, the larger the curler, the wider the wave will be.
The perm with wide waves tends to lose shape faster than the one with small curls. For this reason, to be effective, the curler must not exceed a diameter ranging from 0.3 to 2 cm.
Light permanent beach waves effect
What if we told you that the light perm can give you the famous beach waves effect?
The perfect treatment for those who love the wave effect, who want a natural look that does not distort their look too much. The hair will regain volume and the whole face will benefit from it.
Ask your hairdresser for information on perming even and especially if you already have natural curls but you see that they have lost body: the perm will restore all their lost charm. But remember that you will have to take care of it with moisturizing products, so your hair will be enviable!
Tip: always use specific products for your hair type, after washing the hair, pat with a towel without rubbing and dry upside down with a diffuser. The result? You will have a screaming hairstyle!
Light perm for short hair
Even if you have short hair, the permanent treatment may be suitable for you. It is often thought that short hair cannot be curly, but that is not the case at all. First you will have to study together with your hairdresser, a suitable haircut, and the game will be done.
- A short layered cut will be ideal with soft curls.
- A curly bob on an even cut will give voluminous curls for a timeless beauty.
- With a layered cut at the nape of the neck and curls framing the face, you will be super trendy.
- With afro-like curls on a medium-short cut, you will have maximum definition and tidy hair.
- On a very short cut, curly hair will give you a jaunty look highlighting the whole face.
- With a shaved cut on the side, curly hair gives more movement and volume to your look.
