Oxfam supports the fight against poverty with the initiative "A plant against hunger"
Oxfam Italia takes to the streets against the injustices of the food system and launches the initiative for the first time A plant against hunger. On the weekend of 18 and 19 October, Oxfam will in fact be present in 600 Italian squares to raise public awareness and raise funds in support of the projects to fight poverty that it carries out in the South of the world: in fact, over 1,500 volunteers will distribute 32,000 plants in front of a minimum contribution of 10 euros, offering everyone the opportunity to defeat hunger in the world. Testimonial of the noble initiative will be the ambassador of Oxfam Italy, the journalist Ilaria D'Amico.
At the Oxfam stalls (here you can find the square closest to you) it will be possible to buy two beautiful houseplants, the Sansevieria trifasciata and the Dracena marginata, in the form of a foretail, well known to the public of enthusiasts and connoisseurs of greenery. their resistance and air purification capacity. A small gesture to make an important contribution in raising funds for the countries of the South in the world within the project to fight poverty and hunger.
'One in nine people worldwide is affected by hunger and malnutrition", explains the president of Oxfam Italia, Maurizia Iachino, who continues: "About 805 million people do not have enough to eat and the vast majority of these - 790 million - live in developing countries, where 13.5% of the population suffers from malnutrition. of the deaths of children under five, generating 3.1 million child victims every year. There is a way, however, to break this vicious circle: to support women. If women had the same access to food and resources as men , 150 million fewer people would suffer from hunger in the world ".
