2014 World Cup: yes, women love football too!

This may not seem like a novelty to you… But, yes, women like to watch football matches. And it's not just about Brazilian women who are sucked into the 2014 World Cup. More than a thousand people in six different countries (Germany, Brazil, Spain, France, Italy and Poland) have answered football-related questions and the results are positive: women can't wait to get involved!

Almost 85% of users who took part in the survey showed great enthusiasm for the World Cup and said they didn't want to miss a single match. And it is easy to understand why there is so much enthusiasm: the matches are the ideal opportunity to get together. Just friends were considered the ideal companions to see football matches, in all the countries concerned. As for the perfect place to see the game, the sofa has the upper hand, except in Germany where people prefer to watch the game on giant screens installed in public spaces. Preparations such as decorating the house, thinking about a look or nail art for the occasion do not seem important (only 13% choose themed furniture and clothes).

And what about soccer players? Despite their allure, they don't seem to be one of the main reasons that push women to watch games, rather they occupy the last places among the reasons for watching the World Cup. In Brazil, Spain, France and Poland, most women watch World Cup matches for the sport itself. Italians and Germans are pushed to watch the matches driven by the wave of good humor and beer. Vying for the title of hottest man on the field, the Spanish Gerard Pique - Shakira's husband - takes the gold medal in two countries (Germany and Brazil), while the Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo climbs the podium in four other countries (Spain , France, Italy and Poland).

However, women's interest in sport clashes with a lack of information. In Italy, France and Poland, most women have never carried out any research on the subject; while in Germany and Brazil, the internet is the main source of news, in Spain it is TV the main source of updates. When it comes to women's football, curiosity is even lower - 41% of people said they have never attended a match in the category.
