All perfect with Photoshop? Ok, but France obliges you to declare photo editing!

Of course we are talking above all about models, that is women with an uncommon beauty ... but perfection does not exist for them either! Even if marketing agencies and high fashion magazines want us to believe that this is the case.

The "Loi Mannequin" law and the battle against an unrealistic ideal

Well, dearest French models and fashion agencies ... the godsend is over!
In fact, since October 2nd, a law has come into force in France that obliges to accompany with the words “photographie retouchée (retouched photograph)“ the photos for commercial purposes that have undergone the intervention of Photoshop.
The "Loi Mannequin" provision, wanted by the deputy of En Marche! Olvier Veran, also forces models and fashion houses to present a medical certificate proving their physical health; women with a body mass index below the established standards are not allowed to go on the catwalk.

It is a real revolution for the fashion world, which from France and Spain - which since 2006 has not allowed models with BMI below 18 bmi to run - could soon cross over to our country as well.
The law was created to combat the problem of anorexia, which is seriously widespread among young French women. As stated by the French Ministry of Health, the goal is to "act on the image of the body in society to avoid the promotion of inaccessible ideals of beauty and prevent" anorexia in young people ".
This message is addressed to young people from all over the world and of all social categories, constantly subjected to images of "perfect" bodies that become their obsession and their torment. And it is also aimed at models, involved in an apparently fairy world, but often driven by shady and potentially dangerous mechanisms.

Online advertising campaigns, posters and catalogs with photos that have undergone any kind of retouching must be stamped. Penalty a fine that can range from 37,500 euros to 30% of the value of the campaign, and in most cases it is not expensive advertising.

The reaction of the catwalk stars

Getty Images, a leading source of commercial images, has already adapted to the new provisions, accepting only un-retouched photos from the French runways.
And how will the queens of fashion have received this novelty? Will they be happy that they can finally show off their natural beauty?
As will be known by now thanks to the numerous blunders of stars and photographers, there are not a few who habitually make use of the "retouch" with Photoshop and the like. The list includes models - including Victoria Secret angels - but also many well-known faces from the show.
They range from the most striking cases, such as that of the curvy model Ashley Graham who appeared on the cover (magically) without the cellulite she wouldn't worry about, to the use of some innocent filter. Some of these stars may not willingly accept the imposition, or even rage like pop queen Madonna.
But there are also many beauties, many photographers like Adi Barkan and many brands, who have always opposed retouching (at least in the photos). Of course, often these are women with whom Mother Nature has been more than generous, such as Naomi Campbell, Gisele Bundchen and Keira Knightley ...
The latter, however, like many other stars, has not given up on a (more than) perfect nose.
