From a purely chemical point of view, hair discoloration is the consequence of the destructive oxidation of melanin, which gives color to the hair, whether partial or total.
In addition to the lightening process, the bleaching process determines changes in the structural and elastic properties of the hair, which is why it is essential not only to follow the bleaching procedures to the letter in order not to damage the hair, but also to take better care of it later to prevent it from become more porous, they become stringy and opaque.

Hair bleaching: practical advice

If you decide to proceed with a homemade bleaching, here are some useful practical tips to follow:

Hair discoloration

• Do this in the bathroom, away from anything you don't want to risk staining with the bleach;
• Buy the necessary products in a shop for professionals, basically you will need: a hairdressing brush, a plastic basin, latex gloves, bleaching powder and emulsified hydrogen peroxide at 20, 30 or 40 volumes;
• As for the choice of hydrogen peroxide, adjust as follows: if you already have a light base hair and want a natural effect, opt for the 20-volume one; if, on the other hand, your hair is naturally dark, choose the one with 30 or 40 volumes according to the result you want to obtain;
• Put on old clothes and cover your shoulders with a towel. Also wear gloves to protect your hands from bleaching agents;
• Do not leave any bleaching solution on your hair for too long. The professional ones can burn them or make them fall if they are not used correctly;
• Trim the hair after bleaching to eliminate dry ends and make the hair appear healthier;
• If you have recently done a perm or chemical straightening, wait at least two weeks before applying any bleaching product, otherwise you could damage your hair due to excessive manipulation;
• If you regularly bleach your hair, obviously you will not have to apply the bleach over the entire length every time, but only on the regrowth.

Hair bleaching: afterwards, fill up on pampering

The bleaching products are sold together with a package of nourishing conditioners specially designed for bleached hair. In fact, after bleaching the hair shaft, when stressed, is more ready to receive and absorb restructuring treatments, so do not skip this important step and make sure you let the product act for at least 3-5 minutes before rinsing it.
