Crystal therapy: An ancient practice
Since ancient times, stones have been attributed therapeutic, protective or lucky properties, thanks to amulets and talismans. The protective function has always been highly regarded since ancient times. Some Indian beliefs say that kings once accumulated precious stones to ward off negative entities. On the top of the pyramids the Egyptians placed crystals to attract celestial energies. Also in many Greek and Latin texts and in the Old Testament there is talk of the therapeutic use of crystals, a practice also used by the Maya, the Aztecs and the Red Indians. Even without being as widespread as herbal medicine, crystal therapy has made itself known as an "alternative" especially in the West for about forty years. Obviously, there is still a lot of skepticism among scholars regarding the therapeutic effects of these precious or semiprecious stones, despite having measured the magnetic field of various crystals with special instruments. The stones have natural origins, they can be formed by the crystallization of minerals or magma gas, by decomposition or by changes in the rocks. The way the molecules aggregate determines the shape, luster and color of these crystals. In crystal therapy their color, their structure are associated with human health problems (for example, red stones are used to treat blood diseases).

The stones used in crystal therapy treatments must be of natural origin, not treated with chemicals or artificial dyes. This practice believes that minerals that are usually used in medicine (iron, calcium, potassium, zinc, copper), but also other gems have therapeutic properties. Quartz also protect against negative energies such as electromagnetic waves. To practice crystal therapy, contact between the human body and the stone chosen according to physical and mental needs is necessary. The chosen stones are placed for a few minutes on one or more chakras (the seven points that according to traditional Indian medicine indicate the energy centers of the body), mirrors of the mental and physical condition of each individual. The energy of the stones through the skin comes through vibrations to the human body, which absorbs them, promoting healing or helping it to improve its state of health. Less recommended practices are those of drinking water in which a stone has been dipped or taking its pulverization orally, because they may be less harmless. Some stones, such as amethyst and quartz, can be placed in the rooms in order to "purify them".
