You cannot iron well if you do not have a good ironing board and especially if you do not have a perfectly clean iron, whether it is a boiler or not. After a while, and you have certainly noticed it, ironing at home becomes more uncomfortable: the soleplate no longer flows smoothly and you find yourself doing a lot more effort as well as seriously risking ruining the most delicate clothes. Obviously, the fault lies with the dirt that remains in your iron: but returning your appliance to its original splendor, if you follow our advice, will be easy and really fast. The worst enemies of irons are not only limescale and dirt which can damage the soleplate, but also the prints of the clothes that melt due to the heat and can annoyingly stain the soleplate. Very often the steam alone is not enough to clean it!

Treat your iron well: it can be a valuable ally in your daily life!

How to clean the iron: limescale

There are many anti-limescale products on the market but there are also a series of natural solutions, the classic grandmother's remedies, really very effective to remove limescale from your iron.
Prepare a mixture of hot water and a few tablespoons of baking soda, a really good product that can also eliminate bad odors. Then treat the surface with a sponge soaked in water and bicarbonate: problem solved! And if you prefer a light scent, you can also add lemon juice or apple cider vinegar to the mixture.
If, on the other hand, you have wine vinegar at home, you can use that. Wine vinegar is also a practically miraculous natural remedy against limescale. Mix wine vinegar and hot water in a bowl then dip a sponge in this solution and pass it on the iron plate (obviously cooled). Let it sit, scrub, and then dry with a clean cloth in the meantime. You won't believe your eyes: the straightener will be as good as new ... even better! Get into the good habit of doing a little maintenance on this appliance by cleaning the plate every week: you will gain in terms of results with your laundry and also in terms of time because ironing will be faster and less tiring. The clothes in your wardrobe will thank you! Also, remember that prevention is better than cure. Always (exactly, always) use distilled water for steam, unlike tap water, distilled water greatly reduces the formation of limescale in the iron and keeps the plate safe (because it does not clog the holes), the boiler and the tank, which will therefore not require frequent maintenance.

How to clean the iron: burns

The wine vinegar is not only useful against limescale but it is a valid ally to clean the plate of the iron from glued burns. In case of burns you can use it in combination with hot water and tablespoons of coarse salt. Remember to sprinkle the mixture on the iron plate with a soft sponge Never use an abrasive sponge for the iron because you risk scratching the plate and ruining it completely.
If you don't have wine vinegar, you can choose to use salt. Sprinkle the burned surface with a solution of lemon juice to which you have added grains of coarse salt and then leave to act for a few minutes. After this short time it will be very easy to remove the burned simply by wiping with a dry cloth. Finally, another natural remedy much loved by grandmothers to eliminate all traces of burns from the iron plate is wax. Just use a candle with the iron on. With the candle you need to rub the burned area until the candle melts. At that point you can remove everything with a soft cloth: residual wax and burnt stain (just being careful not to burn yourself). With this simple remedy you will forget in a moment the residues of burnt dirt. In case of large and persistent burns (perhaps if they are very old) you will need to repeat the natural remedy you choose several times, until the problem is completely resolved. All you need is a little patience: the iron will be as good as new!

Just one precaution: watch out for elaborate garments, rich in lace and lace: avoid doing it yourself so as not to ruin the iron and especially the dress!
