Small and unsightly protrusions with a white or yellow tip that form mainly on the face, pimples primarily affect the T-zone, that is, the points that produce the most sebum: forehead, nose and chin. Often, however, these imperfections can also affect other areas, such as the trunk and cheeks, a very delicate area to the point that they could leave scars.

Pimples are formed when the sebum, naturally produced by the skin, does not come out due to bacteria or dust. Stopping therefore inside the pore, the area becomes inflamed and the blemish arises. It goes without saying, an excessive production of sebum can be caused both by a genetic predisposition and, above all, by other hormonal reasons, so it explains the reason why pimples swarm in the adolescence season. Despite this, as we have said, the onset of pimples can also affect adults, up to 30 years of age and even beyond. Cause of this, in addition to the classic hormonal factors , the skin type of the individual must be considered (if it is an oily skin, the production of sebum will be greater), rather than a poor diet or other contiguous factors, such as stress.

How do pimples arise? The causes

First, a distinction must be made between pimples and acne. In fact, even if both involve skin imperfections, they are not the same thing, but differ according to the severity with which they appear. Different types of acne have been identified, but in general a rash with the appearance of a few white pins, blackheads and some inflamed pores, already allows us to talk about mild acne.
If we are in the sphere of some pimple, however, it is not yet defined as acne, and the cure is simpler and closer.

The main cause of pimples, as mentioned, is hormonal in nature, which is why they arise above all between the ages of 12 and 14, up to the age of 20, when adolescence gradually comes to an end. In this season of life, the production of testosterone is higher; it is the hormone that accelerates the production of sebum, the reason for the formation of the pimple. In this sense, the imperfection is at the first stage, which can be followed by other steps, such as the formation of pus-filled pustules or comedones, commonly called blackheads.

Sometimes, the pimple can remain under the skin, thus forming those more or less deep white points, which can remain on the affected area for several months, eventually becoming inflamed over time, thus becoming painful and perceptible to the touch.
A further cause of the onset of pimples and acne can be the polycystic ovary, which affects about 20% of women of childbearing age.

To separate from these problems is instead the appearance of those pimples in the days preceding the menstrual cycle, as they will tend to disappear after a while, certainly once the period is over. Acne sufferers will see worsening over this time, especially on the face, particularly on the cheeks, forehead and chin.
Finally, in adulthood, the appearance of pimples is mainly due to an excessively oily skin, as well as an "incorrect diet, rich in saturated fats, not helping a skin already predisposed to impurities, and a prolonged state of stress.

Methods for fighting pimples on the cheeks and face

The cure for acne and pimples is not a single one as there are many ways to keep skin healthy. Important, in the first instance, is a good cleansing of the skin, then passing through natural remedies and greater attention to nutrition, favoring foods rich in Omega 3 and vitamins and hydrating in abundance, drinking plenty of water (8 glasses of water are recommended a day) and generally taking a lot of liquids (also through tea and herbal teas), in order to purify the body.
It is important to remember not to use cosmetics based on oils or silicones, as they make the skin even more oily. A trick that is often not given importance concerns the make-up tools: keeping the sponges and make-up brushes clean is a step not to be neglected as they could carry bacteria to other parts of the face, thus causing the onset of pimples and blackheads.
It is essential not to touch your face with dirty hands, because not only would you still risk spreading the bacteria to other areas but, with the intent of squeezing the pustule, you risk causing scars on the face.

The case of pimples under the skin, on the other hand, deserves a "care apart as they do not require any treatment, as they have a tendency to disappear spontaneously, in the same way they appeared. In cases where this does not happen and the treatment was not natural, however, it may be necessary to intervene with targeted and specific treatments. When the pimples under the skin become perceptible to the touch, painful or annoying, it is preferable to contact your doctor, or better still make a visit to a dermatologist, a specialist who , once the cause has been identified, he will find the most suitable way to address the patient. Obviously, in these cases, the treatment to be undertaken will depend on the origin of the disorder.

Natural remedies for pimples

As we have already mentioned, the most effective remedies to fight pimples start right from skin care, in the morning and in the evening. In fact, it is important to cleanse your face morning and evening, removing make-up regularly before going to sleep so as not to leave make-up deposited all night. In this way, your face will be free of fat and dead cells, thanks to a good cleanser and a gentle cream suitable for your skin type - without overdoing the washes and quantities, because this would only lead to more sebum production. .

You can then adopt home remedies, to try in case of emergency because of their simplicity, they are used to improve the condition of pimples.

  • Bicarbonate: miraculous for numerous functions, it can also help eliminate skin imperfections. Create a mixture with one teaspoon of baking soda and one teaspoon of water, apply the paste so formed on the pimples that you are interested in deflating and let it act for about 15 minutes. The lotion will dry the pimple to the point that the next day it will be completely gone.
  • Lemon: excellent remedy to eliminate, by lightening, the red spots that form on the face and especially on the cheeks, as well as being useful for fighting the bacteria that cause pimples. Squeeze a few drops of lemon on cotton and gently pat the affected areas, the results will be visible almost immediately.
  • Potato: its anti-inflammatory properties can also be used to speed up the elimination of pimples. Apply a thin slice of potato every day for 20 minutes and after a few days the condition of the blemish will already be improved.
  • Aloe vera: its properties are certainly not a mystery. Apply it in the form of a gel before going to sleep, allowing it to work overnight, and you will wake up with smoother skin, counteracting inflammation.

  • Toothpaste: the lowest cost remedy but also among the most common, especially among young people. Just apply a little directly on the pimple on damp skin, leaving it to act for at least 15 minutes before rinsing it all off.
  • Tomato-based mask: it is very useful to prevent the appearance of pimples and to fight acne, due to the characteristic acidity of the vegetable. Crush a tomato and, if too liquid, add a pinch of flour, then apply it. on your face and let it sit for at least an hour before rinsing it off.
  • Cucumber scrub: this is also a very common home method, it helps to purify the skin and free it from the annoying problem of pimples. Grate half a cucumber, add it to a spoonful of yogurt and a pinch of salt; make sure you put everything together well, then apply the mixture to your face in circular motions, gently. After covering all the skin paying attention to the cheeks and the T-zone, rinse off and pat dry just as gently. This remedy is recommended once a week.
  • Hydrogen peroxide: it has a disinfectant action and is effective if applied directly to the tip of the pimple, where the bacteria are present. Pass a wad soaked in hydrogen peroxide on the ledge and leave it to act overnight.

How to treat pimples with pus

When pus develops, the situation changes and requires more attention. Here, too, it is strictly not recommended to squeeze them with your fingers, as the bacteria could expand into the rest of the face, worsening the problem and the health of the skin. To make it come out, you will need a warm compress to drain the pus, repeating the gesture with a specific antiseptic product (for greater safety on which product to choose, it is advisable to contact a dermatologist). In any case, it is important to wash your hands thoroughly after applying the compress to avoid spreading the infection. Before continuing with the product and the compresses, wait for the pus to recede, and if the area continues to be painful and uncomfortable to the touch, it is advisable to consult a doctor or dermatologist.

What are the foods to prevent pimples from appearing?

As we have already said several times, good nutrition plays a fundamental role in the fight against pimples. In fact, a high glycemic intake, for example, can increase sebum production.
The foods to avoid for healthy skin are certainly foods rich in saturated fats, such as butter, cheeses, cold cuts, chips, fried foods, carbonated and sugary drinks. Among these, milk could also be included, as it is responsible for an excessive presence of hormones, including insulin, which causes excess sebum production and consequently the appearance of pimples. For some people it could be it is advisable to exclude or decrease the intake of gluten, because they could be particularly sensitive to it, even if they are not celiac.

The foods recommended instead for healthy skin are those rich in Omega 3, contained in salmon and in general in oily fish, nuts, cereals, chickpeas, soy and green leafy vegetables. Also important is the extra virgin olive oil, rich in vitamin E, the apple, the natural yogurt and, of fundamental importance, the water, of which it is advisable to take at least 2 liters per day.
