Blepharoplasty: what is it and how does it happen?
In the eye area, the skin is thinner and therefore exposed to the aggressions of internal and external agents, it undergoes aging factors more quickly, loses elasticity and becomes wrinkled, so to improve the appearance of the eyes it is necessary to remove excess skin. The sagging of the eyelid can also cause a narrowing of the visual field with an expression of fatigue of the eyes.
Before undergoing the blepharoplasty operation, you must undergo a very thorough specialist examination. The intervention is not invasive, however it is good to evaluate some aspects to get the most out of the operation. Several aspects must be considered: those related to the type of intervention (facial structure, skin quality, etc.) and those concerning pathological conditions (arterial hypertension, scarring problems), the specialist will indicate the most personalized path to take. It is absolutely necessary to communicate the intake of any type of drug or supplement.
Normally the operation takes place under local anesthesia. The incisions can be made with the blade, with the laser or radio frequency equipment. It leaves no visible scars, lasts at least eight to ten years (with possible retouching), restores a fresh face and look with an improved field of vision.
The surgery lasts from 40 minutes to 2 hours and, barring complications, you can go home within the day. The procedure will take place under local anesthesia and the patient will not feel pain either during the operation or immediately after surgery thanks to the effect of analgesics. After the surgery, a bandage is applied and ice is recommended on both eyes.
If there have been sutures, these will be removed between the sixth and twelfth day of the operation; you will need to put ointments and eye drops. Excess tearing and swelling will be evident for a few days; the bruises will disappear after 8-10 days.
Contact lenses can be used after about ten days; no make-up is required until the sutures are removed. Avoid exposure to the sun and wait at least one month after the surgery. The use of dark sunglasses is recommended for a couple of weeks to protect the eyes from irritation due to wind and sun. Straining, bending and lifting should be avoided during the early postoperative period.
The results last over time, however, they are still linked to the following factors: lifestyle, sun exposure, heredity, aging.
The costs can vary from a minimum of 1500 to a maximum of 4000 euros, if the blepharoplasty is complete it can even reach about 6000 euros.
