1. Take care of the bread

We often find ourselves dealing with leftover bread and, as we regret throwing it away, we invent curious preservation techniques. Leaving it on the table without protection is strongly discouraged as it is to put it in the fridge hoping that this can work a miracle: leaving the bread in the cold we will find it soft and with the same consistency of a chewing-gum.
Put the bread in a paper bag, doing so will keep it fresh for longer.

Contrary to what one might think, the fridge does not save everyone. There are foods that are best kept cool while others are best left to enjoy the room temperature. Citrus fruits, kiwis and tomatoes, for example, fear too low temperatures as these can slow down, or even stop, the ripening process.
As for the arrangement inside the fridge, however, it is good to keep fruit and vegetables on the lowest shelf, the hottest one, and leave meat and fish in the middle one, as they are generally colder.

3. Trust the apples

Apples when they ripen release ethylene, an agent that helps other fruits to ripen: this also happens with exotic fruits, even with avocados!
If you are looking for an "expedient to get ripe fruit as soon as possible, put a couple of apples in a paper bag and, of course, don't forget to include the fruit you would like to eat first!"

Potatoes are one of the most versatile ingredients in the kitchen and, for this reason, we always have them at home. To favor their conservation, they should be kept in a cool and dark place. This will prevent them from turning green, making them unusable in the long run.

5. Use quality containers

Never put hot foods in the fridge, always wait for them to drop in temperature and invest in level containers. Do not entrust your future meal to poor plastics: the food, and your health, will be grateful to you!
