Almond eyes: everything you need to know about this shape and how to enhance it
The almond-shaped eye is not an exclusive somatic trait of Asian populations. While this shape is undeniably more prevalent in Eastern countries like China and Japan, there are now many people of Caucasian ethnicity who sport a beautiful pair of almond-shaped eyes. But what makes them so special? What distinguishes them from the others is undoubtedly the fold of skin in the inner corner of the eye, which gives it the typical shape of the fruit. In fact, not all almond eyes are the same. Often, in fact, these have characteristics that distinguish them from population to population (just think in the eyes of Chinese and Japanese people who, albeit to a minimum extent, have some differences in size). Characterized by a good dose of charm and sweetness, they enchant anyone who looks at them and, if enhanced with the right make-up, they can give a certain intensity to the look. In this article we will go to discover the origins of this form and find out how to best enhance it through makeup.
But before proceeding, watch this video and find out the correlation between eyes and personality.
The origins: how are almond-shaped eyes born?

They developed thousands of years ago among the populations that inhabit Central Asia and Siberia, places that are deeply hostile to human life. It is for this reason that the almond shape was initially born as a defensive structure, that is to protect the eyes of those who lived in those places. In these geographical areas, in fact, the extreme environmental conditions seriously endangered the sight of the local population, exposing them to cold and snowy winters and extremely hot summers. The gusts of wind with lots of sand, the snow storms and the blinding reflection of sunlight on the white of the snow-covered landscapes have meant that evolution led, in fact, to the formation of almond-shaped eyes.
In this regard, it is good to specify that the eyes are not the only part of the body to be influenced by climatic factors. Just think, for example, of the color of the skin or the texture of the hair. The populations of Africa, for example, they have a skin richer in melanin just to protect themselves from the sun's rays which on that continent are more powerful than elsewhere. Similarly, it was observed how the thickness of the hair changes depending on the temperature of the place where you live. In fact, people who live in warmer areas tend to have thicker, thicker and curly hair, always to defend themselves from UV rays.
Recently, however, another theory has been formulated concerning the origin of the almond-shaped eye, for which this would be attributable to a particular gene called EDAR which in Asian men would have undergone a mutation, thus leading to its appearance.
In the years to come, this form then spread to the rest of the world, especially in Northern and Eastern Europe, where it is possible to find some climatic similarities with the places mentioned above. However, due to migration and relations between people of different ethnicities, even in countries such as Italy it is now possible to observe this morphology with its typically oriental features.

The best way to enhance a beautiful pair of eyes is to know how to make up in the way that best suits their shape. Each shape, in fact, wants its make-up and, in case you have an almond-shaped eye, know that there are several beauty tricks to give depth to the look. Below, we list the main make-up secrets with which to highlight your beautiful "oriental" eyes.
- If you want to leave everyone stunned with your intense and seductive gaze, bet everything on a play of light and dark.
- If you want to get bigger eyes, we recommend applying the eyeshadow not only on the upper eyelid, but also at the lower rim. A gimmick that will help expand the size of the eye.
- To lift the gaze, especially if the eyes tend to go down a little, it is necessary to have a certain dexterity with the eyeliner and to be able to create a cat-eye make-up, thus simulating a cat's eye, with the final tip going upwards. Alternatively, those with little manual skills can draw a simple straight line, stopping at the end of the eye. In this way, the size of the eyes will increase dramatically.
- Go for monochromatic and preferably light eyeshadows. An excessively extravagant make-up or a selection of too dark colors would, in fact, “suffocate” an eye that is already quite closed in itself.
- To show off a sexy and intriguing look, instead, abound with strokes of mascara and possibly help with an eyelash curler.
