David Bowie died
Bad awakening this morning with news that we never wanted to hear: David Bowie, international music genius and multifaceted and avant-garde artist among the most loved and influential ever, passed away at the age of 69.
The singer, who just three days ago greeted the release of his latest album - the twenty-eighth of his career - entitled Blackstar, passed away yesterday, January 10, after an 18-month battle with cancer. To confirm the news, which comes absolutely unexpected, were the official accounts of the singer.
It is impossible to retrace the steps of an immense career and of a brilliant artist who has continually redefined and reinvented the language of music, anticipating times and trends and becoming an essential and constant point of reference for all types of musical and cultural experimentation. Chameleon, brilliant and always one step ahead, Bowie, whose real name is David Robert Jones, was one of the contemporary artists who most determined and conditioned the way of perceiving and making music. From rock, to acoustic folk to electronics and soul, the White Duke has experimented continuously, contaminating genres and languages and always managing to be innovative and inimitable. And the dismay and sadness with which the world today welcomes this sad news, they prove it.
