Male cycle: men also have their "period"

The male cycle is closely linked to hormones, in fact, fluctuations in testosterone can be observed which usually in the morning is at its maximum levels, while it drops at the end of the day. Male premenstrual syndrome: what is it?

We can talk about male PMS (Irritable Male Syndrome) linked to hormonal changes and which involves hypersensitivity, fatigue, nervousness, emotionality, just like for the female sex.
From here we move towards the real concept of man's hormonal cycle, during which there is no blood loss, but there are sudden changes in the levels of testosterone, the male hormone from which the characters derive. sexual and which is also fundamental for the correct functioning of the metabolism, bone health and nature of the moment.

It will have happened to everyone to have bad days, to feel inadequate, inefficient and with low self-esteem: all these characteristics can be associated with the male cycle. While the period in women occurs approximately every 28 days, the same cannot be said for men, where these sudden changes also occur up to four times a day.

The testosterone fluctuations not only affect the sexual life, but assume a considerable importance in general for the level of vitality of the person. Each hormonal fluctuation can correspond to a significant change in the tone of the mood and the day could take a bad turn.

Male cycle: what are the symptoms?

Just as it happens for women, men also have bad days: fluctuating mood, exhaustion, hypersensitivity, irritability and sudden hunger are just some of the symptoms related to the male cycle. Who would have thought that PMS could also exist in a male version ?!
Some may think that this is the revenge by all the women pointed out for years with phrases like: "... why are you nervous? Do you have periods?", but let's take a closer look at what it is.

According to a scientific study conducted by the University of Bratislava, the levels of male hormones over the course of the month undergo mutations or fluctuations similar to those of women; from here the hypothesis of the existence of a male cycle has made its way more and more, and today scientific evidence in this sense is multiplying.

The causes that make testosterone levels unstable

At the base of the hormonal changes in testosterone there are various causes. If on the one hand sexual intercourse and physical activity can cause temporary spikes in the hormone, it is also true that on the other, stress and diseases (cancer and diabetes in particular) lead to significant drops during the day. these cases just mentioned, the human body must conserve energies that cannot be used at the moment for the production of spermatozoa.
According to some scientific studies on the male cycle, even the changes of season would affect hormonal changes. In northern countries such as Denmark and Norway, characterized by long periods of light or dark, testosterone levels are usually very low in the summer, while they peak at the end of autumn.
Finally, there are a number of other conditions closely related to low testosterone levels and among these we mention: irregular sleep, unbalanced diet, advancing age.

How long does the male cycle last? Differences with the female one

Doctor Peter Schlegel Professor in the Department of Urology at New York-Presbyterian and Weill Cornell Medicine, he has always supported the theory that there is also a cycle for men. Let's clarify immediately: the "easily impressionable" will be able to breathe a sigh of relief, because in their case there will be no real menstruation with bleeding, but everything will happen without regularity and even without a real ovulation, which is the one that then allows the woman to become pregnant. This just described is one of the main differences between the male and female cycle. Furthermore, while women will have their menstruation every 28 days with bleeding lasting from 5 to 7 days, it can be said that men can have their "period" even several times in a month and without any regularity. The cycle for men can last a few days and during this period it will be very frequent to feel exhausted and not in the best of form. This phase could be followed by another one in which you feel better, and finally, other days of irritability will return and listlessness ... just like a cycle!

What about the physical changes?

In women, before and during the menstrual cycle, there may be a series of physical changes such as abdominal swelling, breast pain, water retention. All this does not happen in man and the main reason is to be found in the fact that the male organism does not prepare for a possible pregnancy, consequently it is free from everything described above. The common aspect between males and females therefore remains, the altered mood and irritability in particular.
