Before proceeding, however, we remind you of the usual annual appointment with AIRC and its Health Oranges. On Saturday 26 January in 3,000 Italian squares, 20,000 volunteers will be involved in the distribution of Health Oranges, a fruit that symbolizes healthy and protective nutrition thanks to its extraordinary properties. With a donation of 9 euros it will be possible to receive a 2.5 kg net of oranges and for those wishing to make an additional supply of vitamins, from this year, there are also orange marmalades (240 gram jar, minimum donation 6 euro) and orange blossom honey (pack of 500 grams, minimum donation 7 euro). The volunteers will also deliver a Guide with some valuable information on prevention, in particular on smoking and obesity, together with healthy and tasty recipes based on oranges, signed by Moreno Cedroni, Carlo Cracco and the young chef JRE Roberto Tonola.

Here is also the touching testimony of a young AIRC volunteer to reiterate the importance of research and prevention.

1. Red meat is bad for your health

The answer is always conditioned by the type of consumption made of it. Red meat itself contains some properties, such as vitamin B12 and iron, which are good for you. The problem is in excessive consumption and in the type of cooking. In fact, red meat also contains saturated fats and iron from the heme group which in excess contribute to increase cholesterol, insulin level and inflammation, favoring the development of pathologies and cancer cells, especially in the colorectal, in case of excessive consumption. In addition, the preferred cooking is steamed, unlike that on the grill or in a pan which favor the formation of potentially carcinogenic substances. It is good to remember that it is advisable to avoid highly processed meats (because they are more harmful) such as sausages and cured meats. In fact, experts have established that 18-21% of colon cancers are probably linked to the consumption of red meat and sausages, and thus 3% of all cancers. Balance your diet with these foods

4. The alkaline diet treats cancer

The answer is very simple: NO. The alkaline diet has for years been considered one of the possible solutions to cancer, because theoretically it would lower the level of acidity of a body, favorable to the development and maintenance of the disease. In reality, our organism is made in such a way that food will never be able to change the acidity or basicity of the tissues, and this is because in any case it would activate automatic mechanisms to immediately restore the pH to the normality values. Basically, there are no studies showing that this type of diet has any cancer prevention or cure effect due to pH.
