Women in communication: interview with Francesca Forfori from Shiseido

Coming of age is certainly an important milestone, both for a person and for a brand and, in this very particular case, for ours.
As the female turns 18, we have decided to start a Women Empowerment project that focuses on women who work in the field of communication.
Francesca Forfori, Shiseido Make-up Brand Manager, answered 5 significant questions for us, explaining the importance of discovering the unique and special characteristics that allow women to make a difference day after day.

1. What is "being a woman" like in the world of work?

Today, being a woman in the world of work is no longer showing that you are up to it, but taking responsibility for the characteristic that most connotes us: our generating force, our ability to welcome differences to transform them into a vision that contaminates future projects.

2. What was "women empowerment" for you at 18?

My “Women empowerment” at 18 was the courage and the desire to go beyond the mold, to dare new paths, to believe in the desire to know different contexts, to welcome the stimuli to grow and bring in my turn new stimuli.

3. Three words you associate today with "women empowerment"

Opportunity, freedom, awareness. Opportunity to experience each situation as a new door towards an evolutionary context; freedom to be oneself, beyond schemes and judgments; awareness of being unique and being able to make a difference in our small way starting from the smallest daily choices.

4. What would you recommend to the 18-year-old you?

Today I would also advise a six-year-old girl to believe in herself, to dream of unexplored horizons, to experiment because even failures are important steps to attest to our uniqueness and beauty. And to welcome frailties as a wonderful demonstration of our femininity and ability to create.

5. How much need is there to talk about women empowerment today and what should be done?

I think there is a need to share one's paths, one's difficulties and - why not? - their successes. Because always hiding behind our vulnerability is not constructive, nor is hiding behind typically male manifestations of power. Our strength is the ability to team up, to share, to be fully there, to show ourselves in our entirety and to always have the critical spirit to allow ourselves to question and ask ourselves how we can improve and how we can make a difference, in private as well as in professional, with friends as with our boss. With all the femininity that represents us, fearlessly dressing our face as Athena, the rational, Demeter, the maternal, Venus, the seductive, Artemis, the warrior. Because we have different faces and our great opportunity is to bring them to the stage of the various moments of our life with awareness and even a touch of irony.
