What are the causes of vaginal dryness?

The phenomenon often also affects the external female genitalia such as the large and small labia, and in some cases the fault is to be found in the excessive use of vaginal douches, which can cause vaginitis, irritation of the vagina due to the imbalance caused by the products. or the drugs used in lavender.

The symptoms for recognizing vaginal dryness are different:
- itch
- burning
- pain during intercourse or generalized pain in the area
- continuous feeling of having to urinate
In fact, vaginal dryness, caused by the drop in estrogen, also produces a drop in immune defenses: the walls of the vulva are less lubricated, and usual acts such as peeing or having sex become painful.
Often, however, vaginal dryness during intercourse can be simply due to an emotional issue: taking more time in foreplay, for example, allowing yourself the opportunity to increase sexual arousal, could solve the problem. This solution obviously concerns vaginal dryness that it occurs only during sexual intercourse.
Remedies for dryness: topical cream, lubricants and medications
The remedies for vaginal dryness are different, and range from natural remedies to real drug treatments. In general, therapies are aimed at increasing estrogen in the blood, to stimulate the natural hydration of the mucous membranes. A topical treatment is preferable to an oral one, that is: local creams, ointments and lubricants are better than estrogen pills. In the hypothesis, the doctor prescribes a cream against vaginal dryness, this is usually applied in the evening, with a specific diffuser, one to three times a week. There is also a ring on the market, plastic and very flexible, which releases estrogen inside the vagina (you can insert it alone or with the help of a gynecologist), and which must be changed every three months. A solution for those who he suffers almost chronically from this problem. Finally, in the same way as the ring, there is a gradual release of hormones on the market.

In case of occasional vaginal dryness, perhaps it is appropriate to adopt natural remedies, which we could also define as grandmother's remedies. Let's see what they are.
- A gel based on aloe vera is a great help in this case, because it soothes and moisturizes while preventing inflammation.
- Pure organic shea butter, thanks to its emollient properties, is ideal for softening and counteracting intimate dryness. Only one application per day on the affected area will be enough. Relief will be immediate.
- Sesame seed oil is an effective natural lubricant to restore ideal vaginal moisture. To be applied once a day with the help of a cotton pad directly on the private parts, massaging gently.
- Doing homemade vaginal douches with calming, soothing and anti-inflammatory herbs will also help. Chamomile, angelica, cypress and sage in the form of essential oils, will be perfect to be diluted in water. In particular, the infusion of chamomile, with a calming and decongestant action, used to cleanse the private parts, will eliminate the itching and burning sensation associated with vaginal dryness.
- Following a balanced diet is equally important: to overcome the problem of intimate dryness during sexual intercourse, choose highly hydrating and water-rich foods such as fruits and vegetables, of which you have 5 servings a day.
- Remember to drink plenty of water which helps keep the whole body hydrated.
- Finally, choose to always wear cotton underwear, which is breathable and hypoallergenic.

The importance of proper daily hygiene
As for intimate hygiene, if you suffer from vaginal dryness, avoid using aggressive soaps or vaginal douching that is too frequent.
Use cotton pads on all days of your menstrual cycle and remember to change them often.
Avoid using "improvised" products to treat vaginal dryness: vinegar, yogurt or hand creams are not suitable to relieve itching! Get advice from your doctor or gynecologist.
