1. Pour the water into a thermo-resistant container and slowly add the caustic soda: this operation will release heat, it will easily reach 100 ° so it is necessary to control the temperature with the help of a thermometer and, above all, do a lot be careful during this first step. Let it cool down to a temperature of 45 °.
It is important to avoid inhaling the fumes that are released into the air and never pour water on caustic soda, always do the opposite!

2. Heat the previously weighed quantity of olive oil in a separate container and bring it to a temperature of 45 °.

3. When both liquids have reached a temperature of 45 °, we will need to combine them. Slowly and carefully pour the soda and water into the oil, starting to mix quickly with an immersion blender, until the soap becomes lighter in color and has reached the stage called "tape".

4. Depending on the properties you want to give to Marseille soap, add drops of essential oil to the mixture, for example of sage essential oil to obtain a disinfectant action.

5. Now pour the mixture into the molds and wait approximately 24 hours for the soap solidification process to take place.

6. Once the soap has reached its solid consistency, remove it from the molds and let it mature for one or two months, placing it in a dry and ventilated place and away from direct sunlight. Thanks to saponification and final curing, caustic soda will lose its toxicity and become biodegradable.

A very useful variant is represented by liquid Marseille soap, which can be easily obtained from a bar of soap produced at home with the procedure just described. For liquid soap we need:
- a bar of grated Marseille soap;
- a wooden spoon;
- 1 liter of water;
- a tablespoon of oil to send them (available in herbal medicine or even in large hypermarkets);
- a blender.

Preparation

1. Grate the bar of soap using a grater with large holes.
2. Put 50 g of grated soap and water in a pot.
3. Stir occasionally with a wooden spoon, melt the soap completely and bring to a boil. At this point, turn off the heat, cover with a lid and let it rest overnight.
4. After the night, the mixture will have a gelatinous consistency and, at this point, add a little water (maximum 100 ml) and start blending with the hand blender until it becomes creamy.
5. Once you have reached the right consistency, pour a tablespoon of almond oil into the soap and mix. Now your soap is ready to be placed in a plastic container and used to clean the whole house.
