5 female TV series to feel inspired
Yes, the big moment has arrived. We are in November, it hasn't stopped raining since 1972 and the only thing we have to do is position ourselves on the sofa, cover on the legs and, armed with remote control and popcorn, dedicate ourselves to our favorite activity: binge watching. With this English-speaking expression we mean “watching episodes of TV series compulsively, without stopping”. Today we will offer you a selection of 5 female series, from the most vintage to the most recent, which you absolutely must watch (or relate to, if you have already done so), to feel understood and inspired.
A mother as a friend
Let's start with a great classic that has kept us glued to the screen of our little TV since 2000. Our favorite character is Lorelai Gilmore not only because she is caffeine-addicted like us and for the pungent irony that distinguishes her, but because she is a example of self-made woman. A single mother at 16 finds the courage to leave her wealthy but oppressive family behind her for an uncertain future. Thanks to her sympathy and determination, she knows how to make herself loved by everyone and, starting from the humblest jobs, she gets to be the owner of an inn, thus realizing her dream without ever having to say thanks to anyone but herself. All of us, mothers and daughters, have envied the relationship that Lorelai has been able to build with her daughter Rori, a super intelligent girl with nerd syndrome that pushes her to commit 100% to everything she does as the only way to get what she wants, without ever taking shortcuts.

TV series along the lines of Devil wears Prada who made her debut in Italy on May 18, 2007 on Italia 1. 4 seasons and 85 episodes focused on the daring adventures of Betty Suarez struggling with a new job as personal assistant to the editor-in-chief of MODE, a hyper glossy fashion magazine, and treacherous colleagues. If you are wondering why this show should inspire us as women, I have the answer ready for you: a girl of Latin origin, braces and démodé glasses on her nose, who absolutely does not respect the beauty standards imposed by society nor shows any interest in bowing to the very strict dictates of the fashion-system, she still manages to make her way into the exclusive world of fashion only thanks to her skills as a stachanov worker and without ever being ashamed of her oddities. From assistant, Betty, no longer so Ugly, becomes director of a well-known London fashion magazine.
Big Little Lies
Set in a colder and grayer California than we are used to, this television series, born in 2017 and still in production, perfectly blends the ingredients of the dramatic genre with those of the thriller. 5 wonder women who, juggling family, love and economic dramas, give us an all too realistic image of the problems that, too often, afflict us contemporary women: domestic violence, rape, betrayal, ex-husbands who marry older women young, evil mothers-in-law who enjoy ruining your life (although we loved Meryl Streep's masterful interpretation), prejudices against career moms. But, above all, secrets, big, small secrets that will inexorably end up uniting these women beyond skirmishes and rivalries.
Euphoria
US telefilm whose first season aired in 2019 and which, thank goodness (or to HBO if you like), will be followed by a second. It is a teen drama that gives a voice to generation z in all its fragile and vulnerable being. The protagonists, mostly women, are adolescents united by traumatic events that have conditioned their development. There are those who have lost their father to a serious illness or to drugs, those who have been bullied, those who have had to fight against their nature, those who grew up in the shadow of parental ambitions, but, above all, who, (i.e. all ), he must learn to accept himself in all his facets. Our favorite character is Kat, played by Barbie Ferreira, which is champion of the body positivity movement, with rare pearls of wisdom such as: “For a lifetime I have been afraid that people will find out I was fat. Do you know what it is? I don't care anymore. There is nothing more powerful than a fat girl who doesn't give a shit ". Although apparently aimed at a young target, it can also be useful for parents who, when it comes to adolescent children, are groping in the dark. And who can blame them? It's worth looking at even just for the glitter make-up inspirations!
Catherine the Great
Television miniseries, broadcast on Sky Atlantic, which tells the last twenty years of the life (1776-1796) of Empress Catherine II of Russia, nicknamed not by chance The big. Interpreter of exception, Helen Mirren, able to perfectly restore the temper of a woman who knew how to combine the passion for pomp and jewels with the skills of politics and strategist necessary to govern such a vast kingdom. Enlightened sovereign manages not to be influenced by detractors who wanted to discredit her at all costs. She certainly did not let anyone, the Great Catherine, put her feet on her head, much less the men who, envious of a woman like her in power, did everything to oust her. She, firm and resolute, has never lost the reins of a kingdom made so great as her own sovereign.
