More united families and more romantic loves thanks to technology

Italian families are those who in Europe most choose high-tech devices such as smartphones and tablets to nurture friendships and relationships with relatives, and even in love, innovation plays an important role, at the beginning as well as at the end of their relationships. This was revealed by the Samsung Technomic Index study, conducted on 5,000 people between 18 and 65 years old in 5 European countries.

Thanks to labor mobility, today only 53% of Italians live in the same city where their family resides. In this scenario, technology plays a fundamental role: 80% of Italians (64% in Europe) think that tools such as smartphones and social networks help to strengthen ties with their relatives and even 61% declare that they have improved their own relationship with parents, siblings and children thanks to the use of mobile devices.

Regardless of the distance, Italians are still the people who most adopt mobile technology to communicate with parents several times a day (38%), closely followed by Spain (36%), but definitely far from what happens in Great Britain ( 18%), Germany (13%) and France (11%).

Even romantic relationships find in technology a precious ally: Italians overcome shyness by relying 75% on high-tech tools to make the first move. SMS (15%), instant messaging services (12% vs only 3% in the rest of Europe) and social networks (7%) are in fact increasingly used for the first invitation to dinner, but also for good night to the person loved.

And if technology plays an increasingly important role at the beginning of a love relationship, the same happens when you decide to quit. 41% of Italians decide to end a love story by communicating it to their partner via SMS or through social networks, thus avoiding an "unpleasant" face to face.
