Hair removal with hot wax

Hot wax is a molten resin that imprisons hairs, be they short, fine, long or bristly, and tears them off from the root. It comes in the form of resin balls to be dissolved. Applied to the skin with a spatula or a roll-on that distributes an even layer, the wax is torn off with a dry blow once it is dry. It is more effective hot because the heat opens the pores of the skin: the hairs come off more easily.

After hair removal, remove the residual wax with wipes soaked in moisturizing essential oils.

Hot wax: tips for a perfect result

  • If you tear the wax in the opposite direction to the growth of the hair (from the ankle to the knee), waxing is more effective but the growth of the hair is opposed: these risk becoming ingrown and forming red pimples. It is therefore better to wax by pulling in the direction of the hair, even if this means making more applications.
  • Be careful not to burn yourself. Always check the temperature of the wax before applying it.
  • This technique is not recommended if you suffer from venous insufficiency or varicose veins, as the heat dilates the blood vessels and often causes small bruises.
  • Wait for the hair to reach an ideal length of 5cm on the legs and 6cm on the groin before shaving.
  • Prepare the groin hair removal by cutting the longest hairs with scissors and apply an exfoliating lotion a few days beforehand to prevent the hair from becoming ingrown.
  • Take advantage of the development of "ready to use" methods: microwavable jars with their fabric strips and electrically heated roll-ons equipped with thermostats to keep the wax at a constant temperature.
  • If you choose to have your beautician waxed, make sure the wax is disposable to avoid the risk of skin infection.
  • Know that waxing is being increasingly replaced by "permanent" hair removal techniques such as laser or pulsed light.
