Patches for jeans: rediscover the 90s trend for a nostalgia effect

Do you remember the patches, those embroidered accessories to sew or glue on your clothes? In the 90s, patches were most popular especially on denim, decorating jackets, trousers, skirts, denim overalls, the most loved fabric of that decade. We can't talk about the 90s and the trends most loved by young people without jeans torn or bomber jackets, often decorated with patches of all shapes and patterns.

Today the 90s trend is back in a big way, especially for spring summer 2016. And with it, embroidered or rhinestone patches are back, to be sewn on your favorite garments. they simply glue with the iron on the garment to be decorated. And since the returns of fashion also bring something new compared to the past, there are not only patches for jeans, but also patches on bags and shoes, dresses and shirts. it is for all tastes, from the purist 90s who want to go back to teenagers with a patch on jeans, to the alternatives who would like to dare a rhinestone patch on an elegant bag.

How to match jeans patches?

The looks that involve jeans decorated with patches, embroidered or with rhinestones, sewn or thermoadhesive, are in any case looks that recall a rock and pop world. The jeans themselves are the casual garment par excellence, and to maintain that young and nostalgic look that recalls the 90s we recommend using basic items. For example, if your denim with patches is a denim skirt, combine it with a shirt white or a simple sweater. Unless you want to play with the accumulation of patches, combining a denim jacket with denim trousers, all decorated with different patches.

However, our general advice is not to overdo it, perhaps balancing some patches (as long as they are small and discreet) with shoes with heels. Or, again to stay on trend, you can get your pop look using mules and ankle boots, the trendy shoes for spring summer 2016.

Iron-on patches: your do-it-yourself 90s look

If you don't want to spend money on a garment with patches, the solution is the iron-on patch, to add to the jeans you already own. Many brands offer this type of patch, such as Bershka or Stradivarius, and you can also find them online with Asos. Once you have found the one you like, just get an iron, slightly heat the fabric to be covered and place the patch on it. To make it adhere better, and to apply pressure with the iron without damaging the fabric, put a thin cloth between the iron and the patch. And that's it!
