The woman remains the angel of the hearth for one in five Italians
The result of the survey commissioned by Agenzia Dire a Tecnè on "Women and the media: the thin red line of gender discrimination" was presented yesterday in the Senate, conducted on a sample of 2,000 Italians aged over 18 on the occasion of the first year of DireDonne, section of the agency focused entirely on the issue of gender and equal opportunities.
The appointment entitled paradoxical "Good news More voice to women" was organized on the proposal of Anna Rossomando, vice president of the Senate and Sandra Zampa, Undersecretary for health and creator of DireDonne.
The woman remains relegated to the house
The survey shows that almost one in five Italians, 19.1%, is of the opinion that women should stay at home to take care of their families. This is one of the rare occasions in which Italy is not split in two, North and South are almost in agreement that the role of women should be relegated to domestic issues. The question becomes serious if we think that there are 8 million people, Italians, who think this way, further fomenting the gender stereotypes already present in the area. So stop the struggles for emancipation and equality, for women to return to being the angel of the hearth among dirty diapers and clothes to hang out.
It is 81.9% of women, compared to only 6.8% of men, who dedicate themselves entirely to home and family management. The situation does not improve significantly if we take into account the cases in which both parents are full-time workers, for which the majority of women, 65.1%, always take care of the housework.

Women in the media
If we consider the world of media and information, only 51.3% of the women interviewed believe that the quality would be better if it were women who dealt with it, while 6.8% of the participants fear that, in this case, it could get worse. Furthermore, 75.7% of women are convinced that they have a particular ability to interpret and criticize reality, against 59.6% of men.
Is there room for women in politics?
It is clear to over 16 million Italians that women are penalized if not excluded from politics, but only 4 out of 10 Italians (58.3% of women versus only 20% of men) believe that Italy's fortunes could improve if more roles of power were entrusted to the fairer sex.
A question of democracy
"There is a great deal of work to be done to ensure that women have important roles in the world of professions and also in the world of information and it will take years. In addition to the quotas, a cultural change is needed so that the 40 years foreseen to overcome the gender gap can become less ", the comment of the Undersecretary for Publishing, Andrea Martella, after viewing the results of the survey.
The Vice President of the Senate, Anna Rossomando, concludes by reiterating the need to represent the role of women in a more effective and incisive way because "it is a theme that does not only concern women, but democracy".
