The meeting between Greta and Malala: the activists who will change the world
The world calls and they answer. We are talking about Greta Thunberg and Malala Yousafzai, one seventeen, twenty-two the other. They are the two youngest and "active" activists, pardon the pun, of the moment and they recently met in Oxford, at the Lady Margaret Hall, the institute attended by Malala, where Greta spoke to students about the environment, protests and science. The young Swedish environmentalist flew to England to take part in the Friday strike to be held in Bristol. The two who, in this way, took the opportunity to meet in person, were immortalized together by Jennifer Cassidy, professor of political studies, in a photo that immediately made the rounds of the web.
An interesting chat
Who knows what two tough and busy girls like them must have talked about! Perhaps the inexorable and increasingly rapid melting of the ice in Antarctica where, for the first time in history, the temperature reached peaks of 20 ° C. Or the bombings which, undisturbed, continue to kill innocent civilians in Syria. These are, in fact, the issues that are dear to the two, lined up in the front row to make the world a better place. But how much effort! Denier politicians, haters on social media, there are those who can see something rotten even in two very genuine girls and accuse them of being manipulated from above

Despite this, Malala and Greta have always supported each other at a distance and on several occasions have shown all the esteem they feel for each other. Malala who, on the photo posted on Instagram, writes: "The only friend I would skip school for", had expressed all her support for Greta's protests, tweeting: "I'm happy to see that there are girls leading the movement for the climate. Thanks to girls like @GretaThunberg for using your voice, for telling the truth to the powerful, for encouraging other young people to do the same ”. While Greta, as she wrote on social media, considers the Pakistani activist her model, the one who inspired her to take concrete action to change things.
When a Nobel Peace Prize Winner and a Person of the Year meet
On the one hand there is Malala, who, at 17, was the youngest winner of a Nobel Prize, in her case for peace, "for her fight against the oppression of children and young people and for the right of all children to education ". She did not hold back even when, in 2012, she fell victim to an attack at the hands of the Taliban and, for which she decided to move to Birmingham. On the other hand, however, we find Greta, who, at just 16, was elected Person of the Year by Time and nominated for the Nobel Prize for two consecutive years, in 2019 and 2020. With her Friday strikes against change climate has inspired and sensitized students, and not only, from all over the world. They call her a marketing product, she responds with facts and carries on her struggle.
