Hair pickling: fix that ugly dye!

Pickling is certainly a valid alternative to bleaching, a soft way to change color that does not damage the hair and keeps it strong and healthy. However, if you are a fan of natural products and do not want to resort to chemical preparations even to lighten your hair, watch the video we made for you and try this effective but super natural and delicate hair lightening method!

Pickling and bleaching: what's the difference?

Pickling is a less aggressive treatment than bleaching, it lightens hair color evenly by removing dark pigments and is suitable for already dyed hair. Always rely on a capable and trustworthy hairdresser, to avoid being disappointed by the final effect. This technique partially lightens the color even more tones or removes it completely chemically without touching the natural color of the hair. The pickling treatment can be done lightly, for more fragile hair, with lightening up to 2 tones; medium on normal and healthy hair up to 4 tones and strong up to 8 tones to decisively change the color. The bleaching should be done only on natural hair, to lighten it a lot and then apply a completely different color from the base one, so that you can also go from a mahogany brown to a golden blonde. Based on your hair type, your hairdresser will advise you on the right type of pickling, so as to gradually get to the color you like without damaging your beautiful hair. In fact, this treatment eliminates only the artificial dye, in order to return the hair to its original color, and then dye it in the chosen shade. And the result will surprise you very positively. Furthermore, when the hairdresser applies the color after pickling, lightening your natural color just a little, your hair will appear very bright, shiny. The bleaching, in fact, lightens the natural color thanks to ammonia, the pickling, on the other hand, removes artificial pigments from the hair.

Pickling: products and procedure

To carry out a good pickling, the hairdresser will ensure that the oxygen is able to remove the artificial dye from the hair, making the hair cuticles permeable. Once a month, then he will apply the dye on the regrowth of the roots, to achieve the desired color.
Mix a dose of oxygen with one dose of bleaching powder. The amount of oxygen depends on the type of dye to be obtained; it is usually at 20 volumes, but also at 40 if you want a stronger lightening. The mixture is applied all over the hair or only on some strands depending on the required effect. In the latter case, the product can also be applied to damp hair; if you want to pickle all the hair, spread the mixture with a brush on all dry hair: wait half an hour and then rinse thoroughly. As we have said, this is not a very invasive technique, which ruins the hair. However, after this treatment, the hair can always appear a little more fragile and therefore will need shampoos and conditioners with soft and nourishing formulas, without alcohol and too aggressive surfactants, so as not to irritate the scalp, already made sensitive by the treatment. And, in addition, restructuring masks must be applied to nourish and strengthen the hair. In the following days, replace the conditioner with a mask at least once a week, which you can also do alone, using natural products taken from your pantry. To facilitate styling, after washing, a reinforcing product can be applied. To dry them better, pass the hair dryer from roots to ends without changing direction, using the nozzle to guide the air flow well, always at a not too high temperature, so as not to further stress the hair. So you won't have the frizz effect!

Pickling: the advantages of this treatment

Pickling depigments the hair without damaging its structure. On dyed hair it is very effective, as it makes the color uniform and can make subsequent plays of color possible, perhaps with balayage. Furthermore, by dyeing the hair continuously, old residual pigments accumulate, which give uneven color effects. Pickling, by cleaning the hair, allows a new dye to have a uniform effect on the entire hair, also eliminating unpleasant reflections. It does not change the structure of the hair like bleaching, but at the same time eliminates the residues of heavy metals, a gift from other dyes made previously. Do not undergo pickling in a period when you see your hair brittle and brittle, it could weaken it further.
To remedy thin and stressed hair, one of the triggers of the problem must also be avoided. In addition to a correct diet, food supplements based on proteins and amino acids, minerals (magnesium, iron, zinc, copper), flavonoids, vitamins (B6, B5, C and E) or rebalancing herbal extracts, such as Serenoa repens, can serve the purpose. , and purifiers, such as artichoke and dandelion, which act during the growth phase, anagen, so that the hair is renewed correctly, gaining mass and health.

Pickling: It's not just about the hair!

the term pickling has always referred to a process aimed at cleaning metals from oxidation and encrustations. It is used in the production of steel tools to eliminate rust or other residues and as a cleaning job before painting or anodizing. It is applied on different types of metal, aluminum, nickel, zirconium, titanium, but also on very resistant stainless steel, as an optimal protection from any oxidation. Pickling accelerates the natural passivation process of stainless steel, with the formation of an anticorrosive layer. As in degreasing, which eliminates oily molecules from surfaces, also in pickling, the treatment involves the immersion of the object to be treated. This technique can be carried out hot or cold, using acid solutions or pickling pastes for the various metal surfaces. In recent times it is very fashionable to pickle even wooden furniture, to give them a slightly aged look, the so-called shabby effect. Recently this term is being used more and more to define this very popular hair lightening technique. However, remember that pickling is a chemical process and the treatment could dull the hair and make the tips bristly. Don't try DIY if you're not confident enough to do it. However, if the technique seems too aggressive to do it at home, contact a specialist on the subject or try using a pickling effect shampoo.
