How to prevent and eliminate cockroaches with natural and homemade remedies
Cockroaches, commonly called cockroaches, are a very nasty pest and eliminating them can be a great challenge. These insects, in addition to being not particularly pleasing to the eye, also transmit diseases and can contaminate our food if we do not notice it.
A first tip is to always keep the house tidy, so that cockroaches and other small animals have few shelters to use to hide. Here are some tips to eliminate the chaos!
Where do cockroaches hide?
The most worrying thing is that cockroaches can hide anywhere in the house and are used to go out during the night when they do not sense our presence.
In particular, the areas of the house that they prefer to take refuge during the day are:
- The cracks and cracks in the kitchen and bathroom furniture.
- The wooden furniture.
- The exhaust systems of collectors and pipes of the kitchen, bathroom, laundry, gas systems, heating or air conditioning, electrical boxes or false ceiling.
- They also love to hide behind or under the fridge, oven, blender and microwave.
- Cardboard boxes, chests of drawers and places where linen is stored.
- Under the wooden steps.
- Garbage containers.

Are cockroaches harmful to humans?
Cockroaches multiply quickly, often coming into contact with food and dirtying them with their excrements.
Dangerous vectors of numerous pathogenic microorganisms, cockroaches can cause salmonellosis, cholera, typhus, dysentery and food poisoning.
Cockroaches can spread a number of diseases, including those listed above, however, unlike mosquitoes, they are not direct vectors of disease. Transmission occurs indirectly, from consumption or contact with objects that have been contaminated by cockroaches, rather than through stings.
Natural remedies to eliminate cockroaches
Do you want to get rid of the cockroaches? There is a large amount of insecticides on the market to easily kill cockroaches in seconds.
However, these products are often toxic and can harm our health and that of our pets. For this, we suggest natural remedies and low cost to free you once and for all from these nasty invaders.
- Laurel: This simple remedy involves putting a few bay leaves in places where you suspect cockroaches may be hiding. These insects can't stand the smell and usually go away immediately.
- Onion and Boric Acid Powder: This remedy has become popular due to its effectiveness and the fact that it is very inexpensive. Create a paste using half a finely chopped onion, half a cup of flour, a little beer or water, a pinch of sugar and 3 or 4 tablespoons of powdered boric acid (you can find it at the pharmacy). Put all the ingredients in a bowl and mix them to form a paste. Use fizzy drink caps to pour this mixture and distribute it in the areas of the house where cockroaches usually go.
- Catnip: spread catnip around the house. This remedy has the same effect as laurel, cockroaches hate its smell and move away.
- Baking Soda and Sugar: Mix a cup of baking soda with a cup of sugar and put this mixture all over the house. Cockroaches will feel attracted to the sugar and eat the mixture, which is lethal to them.
- Borax: This natural ingredient is often used to make laundry soaps. The only thing you have to do is spread the borax all over the house, especially in those areas where you think cockroaches are hiding. When cockroaches walk on borax, it dehydrates and kills them.

Cockroaches: how to prevent them?
If these unwanted guests have come to visit you in large quantities, it would be better to turn to experts, since a simple insecticide or grandmother's remedy is not enough; however, it will probably not be needed by following a few simple hygiene rules.
First of all, always carefully clean the kitchen from food residues and the floors from hair, as they are the main food source of the insects in question.
Once this is done make sure you have sealed all the holes in the sinks with electrical tape to prevent the water from overflowing.
Finally, pour an average amount of bleach or other product on the market for cleaning the drains into all the drains, then close them with the appropriate cap and let it act for at least twenty minutes, but also overnight.
If after these cleanings you have wanted to renew the look of your home, why not do it with a colorful wallpaper carat? Look, for example, at these!
