Preliminary stages

First you need to treat the surface to be painted and choose the right type of paint. If the surface is in good condition and already has a first coat of paint, before painting it just wash it well, let it dry and sand it slightly. If not, know that the best results are obtained by applying a base.

Clean the surface

To clean the surface to be painted you must have a good detergent or an abrasive cream. If the surface has imperfections it is better to resort to sodium chloride crystals. Attention, however, sodium chloride crystals can cause irritation, always wear protective gloves and goggles!

Then rinse the surface in running water starting from the bottom, to avoid smudging.

Smooth the surface

Sanding the surface allows to make it smooth and uniform and to make the two layers of paint adhere better.

Attention! This produces a lot of dust, so always wear a protective mask and don't forget to protect the furniture in the room with a plastic sheet. Furthermore, if the paint to be removed is very old, it may contain lead.

The various methods

- Paint the wood

To make the surface even, when the wood is perfectly dry apply a first layer of varnish. For the result to be appreciable, the surface must be perfectly waterproof. If, on the other hand, the wood has cracks, you will need to apply an insulation product, available at nautical accessories stores. Before applying the second coat of paint we advise you to lightly sand the surface.

To perfect and make the final result long-lasting, apply a layer of transparent varnish on a dry surface.

- Paint the plastic

If the surface is really very smooth, you will first need to sand it lightly with sandpaper. Then, apply a first coat of plastic paint, which you will find in a home improvement store, and finally any acrylic paint.

- Paint a metal surface

In order for the paint to better adhere to the surface, apply a specific base, which will also prevent corrosion of the metal. On the market there are specific bases for each metal, and also anti-rust products or to paint a rusty surface, ask your dealer for advice. Metal is a smooth surface that does not facilitate the adhesion of the paint, so you will have to choose a "solid" paint, such as glycerol paints, rather than an acrylic paint, which will peel off easily.

-Paint the tiles

To even out the surface and to make the paint adhere better, you need to get a specific base for ceramic. There are many paints suitable for tiles on the market, the important thing is that they make the surface perfectly waterproof and, if possible, scratch-resistant. Once the operation is complete, don't forget to refine the seams, so that the result is perfect!

The trick: painting the tiles gives you the opportunity to alternate colors and patterns at will and thus customize your wall!

- Painting a laminate:

On laminated surfaces we advise you to first apply a double layer of acrylic base, and then a double layer of varnish (always acrylic). The operation will take quite a long time since each time you will have to wait until the first layer is perfectly dry before applying the next one, but the final result will be perfect!
