Transporting newborn twins by car, our advice
Transportation of twins by car: the law
First of all, we specify that for the transport of twins by car the rules that we have often told for the transport of children in general by car apply. The use of anti-abandonment devices is mandatory if children are under 4 years old and child seats up to the age of 12 or in any case until they reach 36 kg in weight. But positioning the little ones correctly according to the rules of weight and height may not be enough to spend happy hours, or at least peaceful, when in the car.

How to drive an electric car: our tipsCarrying twins by car: the importance of keeping everything under control
By car, especially on long journeys, it is important to be able to keep children under control at all times. Especially if they are very young, they have a tendency to go all out to make the hours spent on the street rather complicated and the intervention of the parent is very often required. That's why you also need to find the right position for the child seats. Returning a lost pacifier, calming down with a caress, delivering a toy so that the child gets distracted or simply making sure that he can see us in the face: in short, staying within reach of the little one is essential.
If both parents are traveling with them, transporting the twins by car is easier
When you have two newborn twins and the parents both travel with them, it is possible to place an egg on the passenger seat and one exactly behind it. First of all, as regards the seat positioned on the front passenger seat, the airbag inserted in the console in front of the station must necessarily be deactivated, if this is not done, as witnessed by the safety experts we have interviewed on several occasions, little ones could be seriously injured as a result of the airbag exploding. Furthermore, NEVER forget that the eggs must be positioned in the opposite direction to that of travel. Returning to the arrangement of the various family members inside the car, by adopting this configuration, one of the two parents can position himself in the rear seat behind the driver to easily reach both children without feeling crushed by being between the two eggs on the second row. If, on the other hand, mum or dad travel alone with their two children, then they will keep one next to them on the passenger seat and one in the second row, behind the passenger seat, again for better accessibility of the little ones.
And when do they grow up?
When children are ready for the car seat, they should be placed at the rear, one behind the driver and one behind the passenger.
Four child seats for two cars? An important cost, but the savings in terms of stress are considerable
Attaching and detaching two child seats each time, in the event that the family owns two cars, can be a nerve-wracking ritual. Being able to afford it and without saving on safety (it is essential to always choose approved child seats), it is better to invest and equip each vehicle with a double child seat.
Car for important families
Which car to recommend to those who have a couple of twins or a large family? Surely a minivan, or rather a multispace or a large SUV, perhaps those with seven seats. Here are our three proposals, strictly in budget order, on multispaces with the best quality / price ratio.
Dacia Dokker: 5 seats, only 4.36 meters long - therefore easy to maneuver and park - very spartan internally, but with many storage compartments in the passenger compartment, sliding rear doors and a huge trunk: 800 liters. The large tailgate and the very low entrance threshold to the luggage compartment are also functional, to comfortably load strollers, bags and everything else that traveling with twins requires. Price from 14,400 euros
Peugeot Rifter: 5 seats, practical and essential, but definitely better finished than the Dokker, here too sliding rear doors, a boon in the case of garage parking, and a trunk that starts from 597 liters. Price from 22,000 euros
Volkswagen Caddy: 5/7 seats, offers an excellent level of comfort for a multi-space. In the 5-seater version, the boot is 750 liters. In the 7-seat one it is only 190, but the seat backrests can be folded down to increase the space available. Price from 24,000 euros for the 5-seater, from 24,600 for the 7-seater. Also available with methane (from 26,500 euros).
Carrying twins by car: the final tip
The final advice is to accustom children to travel and not be discouraged by the first failing and weepy experiences: whether they are only children or more twins, children must familiarize themselves with the car. The important thing is to always transport them in compliance with safety rules.
