What is plopping

Plopping is an increasingly popular way to dry hair naturally. It consists in rolling the wet locks and wrapping them in a turban, letting them dry without the help of the hair dryer. Thanks to this technique, the final styling is defined and the frizz is eliminated. In particular, we advise you to resort to plopping if you have indomitable, swollen and brittle hair because, with this drying, you will get a soft and elastic curl. Furthermore, drying the hair in this way does not require any special products other than a normal t-shirt or, alternatively, a microfiber cloth and a nourishing cream.

Plopping: the step by step procedure

Although the term plopping can evoke an extremely complicated process, the process by which this “natural” drying is possible is extremely simple and within everyone's reach. However, if you've never tried this technique, here's a step-by-step guide with all the steps required to dry your perfect curls.

Step 1: wet the hair with a jet of warm-lukewarm water to better open the cuticle and cleanse the hair. Wash the skin with a non-aggressive shampoo (better organic), even a single stroke is enough, the important thing is to gently massage the nape of the neck in all areas to eliminate the sebum. Rinse, but this time make sure that the water is lukewarm-cold in order to restore the keratin fibers and obtain a shiny and soft hair. Apply the conditioner on the ends and comb the hair (with your fingers or with a comb) to let the product penetrate effectively into the strands and untangle all the knots. Then, rinse and make sure you don't leave any residue.

Step 2: After washing your hair, pat it dry with a towel to remove the wetness, but without rubbing or squeezing it. As for the towel, it is advisable to use a cotton or microfiber one and strictly avoid terry towels because, by absorbing too much water, they dry and dehydrate the hair.

Step 3: Sprinkle the lengths with an anti-frizz cream that does not require rinsing. Make sure you choose a quality product, free of silicones and parabens, capable of moisturizing the hair, leaving it soft to the touch.

Step 4: this is the most complicated step, but with a little practice and helping you with the myriad of tutorials on the web, plopping will be a breeze. First, lay an old cotton t-shirt or microfiber towel on a horizontal surface (for example on the bed, table or chair). With your head down, approach the towel, making sure that, when you touch the cloth, the strands roll up on themselves. Then wrap the shirt around your head, taking care to cover all the ends, and secure it by making knots. We advise you to use a t-shirt precisely because it will be much easier to tie it at the nape of the neck with the sleeves. (To make the process easier, buy these soft and light turbans on Amazon)

Step 5: So, how to dry your hair by plopping? Simple: relax and let your hair dry naturally inside the turban. Depending on your needs and preferences, you can leave them on for half an hour and then proceed with drying using the diffuser, or wait up to 3 hours and eventually finish drying the remaining moisture using a hairdryer. We advise you to pass the hair dryer directly on the cloth to further fix the styling and protect the hair from excessive heat. Some prefer to resort to plopping just before going to sleep and keep the turban all night so that the hair dries completely naturally.
