The non-binaries, also called not binary, do not recognize themselves in the most classic of the divisions between genres and consider themselves somewhat "the" exception to the rule. By gender identity we mean just that: the awareness of belonging to a certain gender. What matters, however, is to feel good in your body and in your skin! Watch the video and learn how to do it!

Not recognizing oneself in the male and female gender identity: being non-binary

Non-binary means that it does not correspond to either the male or female gender. To fully understand all the facets of this term, it is necessary to understand what is meant by gender identity. We can affirm that "gender identity is the sense of belonging we have to a specific gender, male or female. It has its roots in the inner consciousness of each individual. Male and female identities are recognized as gender identities. transgender is much discussed and not understood in the non-binary community. In short, when a person does not recognize himself in the female gender and not even in the male one is defined as nonbinary. He is not a woman and he is not a man in any way: he is indeed non-binary. A synonym for non-binary (or non-binary) is genderqueer. The term non-binary refers to all those people who do not recognize themselves in the system of binary genders. Non-binaries represent a small but not insignificant slice of the world population. Many people define themselves as non-binary precisely because they do not recognize themselves in the masculine-feminine system and feel they represent an "exception to that rule.

Non-binary and transgender: let's be clear

If we consider transgender with a very broad definition by including under this term all people whose gender identity is different from that assigned to them at the time of birth, then it is possible to include non-binaries among transgender people. However, this definition is limiting because a person who identifies only partially with his gender at birth, or a person who does not identify with any gender identity is excluded from this definition. What identifies a transgender is the transition: this aspect is the factor that identifies this type of people more than any other. Non-binaries can easily make a social transition but legal and medical transition is only possible in some countries and under certain circumstances.
By social transition we mean coming out with people we know, the use of a new name and a different grammatical gender to classify. Today, in terms of language, there is an important attempt at inclusion with the use of neutral pronouns that are not conditioned by the sex attributed at birth.

Non-binary: gender dysphoria

When non-binary people feel discomfort and discomfort due to their inability to recognize themselves in one of the main genders, it is referred to as gender dysphoria. Gender dysphoria is classified by psychologists and psychiatrists as a mental disorder. We can say that the transition dynamics of a transgender are understood and motivated while if the non-binary person does not intend to make the transition the matter becomes more complicated. It is therefore no wonder that the trans community and in particular the non-binary community are protesting and demanding access to a partial transition and micro-dosages in hormone therapy. As you can understand, the matter is still open and there are many aspects that await order and classification from a legal as well as a medical point of view.

Your own body and the non-binary: when we talk about the third gender

A person who considers himself non-binary can be included in a category of his own, a sort of third gender that identifies a condition that does not find correspondence in the female sex and in the male sex. Non-binaries can also be considered as gender fluid (or genderfluid), individuals who have no fixed gender identity: their gender identity can vary over time. Many of these individuals vary gender identity with frequency alternating a recognition in the male and in the female, for them we speak of bigender or of agender when a person does not recognize himself in all genders but only in the neutral gender. Some non-binary people prefer to use terms such as androgyne, pangender, or demigender to define themselves instead of non-binary. As you could understand, gender identities are not a rigid and defined territory but represent a multifaceted and constantly evolving universe as the lgtb community has always emphasized. The knowledge of one's body and one's sexual and gender identity as we have seen can vary and be fluid.

Many terms, many differences. Speaking of "non-binary being ...

Let's talk about gender and non-binary identity. By continuing to read this article, you will now discover what the difference "is. Between non-binary gender, gender queer, genderfluid and agender. These terms may seem very close but if you go deeper you will realize how it is always better not to generalize when talking about sexuality. The nuances are important. and they must be respected. Non-binary identity is a constantly changing universe, to be understood it must first of all be known. They start from genderqueer. This term refers to a person with a non-binary identity. Virtually non-binary and genderqueer are the same thing, they are synonymous. If genderqueer people do not recognize themselves in the gender they have from birth then they are also referred to as transgender. The case of genderfluid people is different: their identity is not fixed and stable and oscillates between the female gender and the male one, but also between the neutral gender and one of the non-binary identities. It is changeable and varied. We could say fluid. Instead, with the term agender we classify individuals who do not recognize themselves in any gender. Technically they are genderless and therefore can either have non-binary gender identities or have no gender identity at all and not recognize themselves in any label.

The age when you understand your gender and examples of non-binary people over time!

But at what age do you recognize yourself as non-binary? The answer to this question is complex and depends on the culture and society of reference. Western culture has made gender invisible beyond male and female sexual ones. Many people are conditioned by the role that society imposes on them and by the expectations of the people around them and who even unwittingly end up attacking gender labels.
In many contemporary Western societies, two main genders recognized at the legal and cultural level are identified: man and woman. In Europe and Asia of the past, and also among the peoples who first populated the Americas, we find examples of other genres. They range from English mollies to Italian femminielli, from Albanian sworn virgins to eunuchs. All these people did not recognize themselves among men and not even among women.
