The art of overlapping clothes

Here are our tips to know which dresses to overlap, which fabrics to choose and which mistakes to avoid!

Mistakes to avoid

- Superimpose different fantasies. Typical example: a plaid shirt hurriedly tucked over a striped t-shirt. Attention! Combining different patterns is not only not beautiful to look at, but it makes you fat!

- Mix colors. By overlapping many layers of fabric, you risk going beyond the rule of color matching, the basis of good taste: never more than three colors, including accessories. A red long-sleeved t-shirt, a brown t-shirt, jeans and a military green jacket? It's too much.

- Overlap fabrics that are too thick. If you are wearing a velvet jacket, fleece sweatshirts are prohibited. Also avoid putting a thick wool suit over corduroy jeans. It is better to prefer light fabrics that go well together: cotton and wool, silk and jeans ...

- Overlapping too many clothes. Whether it's cold or hot, never wear a t-shirt + turtleneck sweater + shirt + vest.

- Mix clothes with different cuts. You don't wear a crew neck sweater over a V-shaped t-shirt. The lines of the body and of the legs would no longer make sense and the silhouette would seem disheveled.

Layer the clothes according to your morphology

- I have broad shoulders. Avoid overlapping two t-shirts by placing a long-sleeved shirt over one with short sleeves. Instead of hiding your shoulders, you will make them stand out. Instead, opt for a simple lightweight jersey top, a cardigan or a masculine-cut jacket. Also avoid wearing the jacket under your coat.

- I'm very thin. If you overlap the clothes, your shapes will seem a little more round. Wear a veil blouse over a jersey tank top. To enhance the waistline, opt for a wide belt.

- I'm short. By overlapping the clothes, you have to try to slim your silhouette: a V-neck t-shirt combined with a sweater with an even deeper V-neck, or an open shirt with a men's vest over it, over jeans, combined with a nice pair of high-heeled shoes.

- I have wide hips. Forget about putting your skirt over jeans. Too long, too heavy, the silhouette is weighted down. Instead, opt for a flowing top with jeans or black pants. Choose a mid-length lingerie-style tank top to break up the hips line.
