The Januhairy has arrived: just shave!
Have you always thought that, when the great cold from the North arrived, it was not worth shaving? Could your hair become a comfortable natural blanket to always carry with you? Now you have the right motivation to do it. We are, in fact, in the month of Januhairy. No, not January. Not even January. J-a-n-u-h-a-i-r-y. Don't you have the slightest idea what I'm talking about? Don't worry, I'm here to explain everything step by step.
Let's start with the name. Januhairy is a play on words born from the crasis between the word January (January in English) and the adjective "hairy". Basically, January has become the month in which you can do HELLO to waxes, lasers, razors and so on and so forth to let your hair grow in a natural and uncontrolled way.
The idea was born in 2018 thanks to Laura Jackson, an English student who, during a theater course, had to grow her hair to fully identify with the role assigned to her. Despite the questioning and, at times, even disgusted looks of the people around her, the girl felt, for the first time in her life, truly free and self-confident. Hence the ingenious idea: he institutes the month of Januhairy, helps women to accept themselves as they are, and, with the money saved from the purchase of razors and beauty treatments, starts a fundraiser. In 2020, donations will go to TreeSister, an American association that, to the sound of "Grow your hair to clean the air", will deal with reforestation and environmental protection. Without considering that the planet earth will thank for the reduction of disposable razors in circulation.
On Instagram there is a page dedicated to the new body-positive movement, where you can admire the photos of all the women who have decided to join it, promoting an ideal of natural beauty, far from the aesthetic standards imposed on us every day by the media and from society. Not only ordinary women, but also celebrities as well as style icons: from Madonna to her daughter Lourdes, from Julia Roberts to model Emily Ratajkowski.
Movember: the male version of the Januhairy
The Januhairy was born in the wake of the Movember, an event that has taken place since 2004 in November, during which men from all over the world are invited to grow a mustache for charity. In this case, the proceeds will be donated to research against prostate cancer. The substantial difference between the two campaigns consists in the fact that, for a man, growing a mustache consists of an original change of look and, why not, fun, while that women have hair on their body is perceived as an embarrassing stigma. Here is yet another form of gender inequality.
